First Time Keto Diet

For those that have made a lifestyle change to a Keto/Low Carb diet, how did you get over the initial hurdles that come with switching?

 

I’m trying it for the first time and struggling physically as well as mentally.

How many days have you been on it?  ?The first four or so are rough, makes you feel pretty bad.

 

I have been on it for almost six weeks now, down 25lbs.  The cravings for carbs goes away after a couple of weeks.  I sleep better, wake up earlier, and my wife says I do not snore now lol.  I feel way better.  I also fast some, at least one day a week.

Been pretty strict now for 5 days. Keeping my net carbs below 25g and intermittently fasting from 7pm-11am. 
 

I haven’t weighed in because I would obsess over it. I have random times of feeling good but most of the time, I’m struggling. Like golf, I think the battle is between the ears.

The fifth day can be pretty rough if you haven't done it before.  Stick with it and you will feel better soon.  Eat some stuff high in sodium, seemed to help me in the beginning from getting the keto flu too bad,  Another member here suggested that and it seemed to help.  Hydrate a ton.

You’ve got this! It’s much easier than golf. But like golf, the stupid cliches are cliches because they work. Take it one shot at a time. IF will definitely help. Remember, there are several things you can consume that won’t break your fast. Make sure you’re getting enough fat. Don’t just replace the carbs with protein. MCT oil and collagen will help. Also make sure you’re getting enough sodium and B1 as well. Try to get as much of your nutrition from natural food sources whenever you can. There are a ton of recipes out there with low carb replacements, like palmini spaghetti. 
 

25g is a great daily target. Don’t beat yourself up if you hit 30g or 35g occasionally. That’s still really good. After 2 to 3 months your body should be extremely more metabolically flexible but you’ll start to see some great results in the next week or two. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and you’ll get there!

You should be supplementing with magnesium. That will help and drink a lot of water. 
 

once you get acclimated to the style try fasting for at least 24 hours.

First week is tough.  Just need to remind yourself that Keto really does work.  It helped me a lot to find a few keto friendly snacks that I liked.  I searched the internet for recipe ideas.  Reddit has a great Keto forum.

Thanks everyone for the input as I had no idea about some of the things mentioned. Rounding out the first week and determined to get to the good part haha.
