1st time Srixon owner

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to what others are saying about their owning a new for the 1st time brand as this is the 1st set of Srixon irons that I've ever owned. I know where have I've been. I don't need to hear how much better your new brand is over the previous brand as I want to keep this simple without any flaming. I always went with the big name brands PING, Callaway, TM although I did just finish up playing the KING Tour MIM irons which were and one of my all time favorites when it comes to looks, feel as they do need more love than they get but at my age it's time to move away from a players iron to GI irons.

Without a doubt, Srixon is one of the most underrated brands in golf. Same with Cobra and Wilson. Maybe I over looked them because they don’t release tons of new models every year like other brands, which subsequently devalues the previous models immediately. Plus you never see them in person as this is the 1st set I've never hit or seen in person as I went with them blindly with just my previous measurements and WOW! did I hit the jack pot as the ZX5's are so easy to hit. The feel, the looks the forgiveness, the distance is among the best of anything else out there. These are properly fitted for me as that's so important with any set of irons. All my PING's Callaway's etc all did well as they were also properly fitted as I'm have nothing negative to say about anything that I've ever owned but there is just something special about Srixon.

It's hard to find another game improvement iron set with this much feel, along with the obvious distance and forgiveness that mid to higher handicap golfers expect. Looking for a set to help out with your ball striking improvement then this is a great option that also has the players look to it. Not taking away anything from the ZX7's as they too are some remarkable irons for many as the forgiveness is just as good for many mid to higher handicap golfers too. I didn't want to go with a combo set as trying to match the gapping between them might have cause a big delay. I got my ZX5's in less than a month as a big special thanks go out to Drew and Cody at GOLFUSA in Manhattan Ks.

1st time out under some damp conditions as we have had rain every day this week I equalled my best score ever as on 2 of the par 4's I tee'ed off with my 4 iron which is something I never have done before on my home course. My confidence level with the longer irons has made a big impression with me. Both shots went 200 yds.  perfectly placed in the fairway. Regardless I know there is no such thing as the Holy Grail set of irons and I know many experience what they call the Honey Moon period. What amazed me was how easy they are to hit as I like it when I feel like firing at the pin instead of just trying to hit the greens. Very forgiving nice penetrating ball flight, distance and feel is all there as this fills all the boxes. Better late than never they say as I'm now a very proud owner of some Srixon irons. So whatever other brand is your 1st and very 1st let's hear about it.

I've been playing the z745 for 5/6 years now. They make incredible irons. Will be hard to switch to anything other than Srixon in the future. The look, feel, playability and results of their irons are unmatched.

I have been a fan of some of the less known irons for quite awhile.  I had a deal with Bridgestone in the mid to late 2000's and played their clubs and balls.  I played Bridgestone until 2013 or so.  J36, J38, and J40 all in CB's.  I joined a club in 2016 and that club was a Srixon club.  The PGA Tour rep for Srixon is a member of the club and we got our hands on stuff well before release and also received pretty good deals.

Between Bridgestone and Srixon I tried some other clubs, Callaway, TM, Ping, Mizuno, even played a few for awhile.  I went back to the Bridgestone irons often until I got my hands on Srixon irons.

I was lucky because my club carried them.  Even though PGA T SS carries them, they just never caught my eyes.  Having access to hit them on our range was the biggest help.

Srixon makes a highly respected product - particularly irons. The woods certainly don't get much respect.

I just hope we can keep the secret for a little while longer so that someday I might be able to own a set.

I never looked at Srixon's before or even bother checking them out at the golf shops. Maybe because I thought that they were for super elite players and I am not worthy using them. Then I started seeing them on MGS. I tried out the Z585's and loved them. Now I have a set of Z785 on their way. My two buddies play Z565 and Z785 and love their irons so much.

The Z785 are so small that they are so intimidating. But when you actually use them, they are not that hard to hit. I was so surprised how forgiving they were for the size. And the forged feel on these. I can't get enough of the feel.

I've been playing the 585/785 combo since they came out. Got fit into them, they both beat out everything else I tired. The 785 for me performed better than other GI irons I tested. They just work for me and for my eye.

The best part is my setup if I get the chance to play and practice more this setup will be able to cover me at several skill levels. I don't see myself getting rid of these for a while I'm just too comfortable with them.

I have been through so many irons in the last 5 years I have lost count.  So many great options out there but I notice I keep coming back to Srixon.  I have owned the 745s multiple time and broke 70 for my best round ever with them.  I'm currently on my third set of 785s after trying to move away from them but I just can't see a reason to let them go anymore.  Probably the best all around iron I have played yet, Srixon is top notch.

I had looked at the 585/785 for several years but last October when I made enquiries about them my golf shop told me I should wait for the new ZX5/7 that were due within weeks.  I was very interested in them but when I finally got around to traveling to the shop to see them, like everywhere else, they had sold out! Anyway last week I was browsing their website and I noticed they had the ZX5's 'in stock' so I rang them and immediately ordered the ZX5 5-PW. I had considered a combo set with the 7 but in the end decided to go the full set in the slightly larger and supposedly more forgiving model the ZX5. So far I've had one range session and two rounds with them and I'm very happy. They look fantastic at address and in the bag. They feel incredibly solid throughout the set. I was a bit worried about the 44° PW but so far it launches like my old 47° PW so maybe all this talk about the iron design, lower centre of gravity, higher launch etc is true and not the marketing BS I always assumed it was.

Find my witb.. Srixon fan boy forever.. The x45s got alot of attention.. X65 kept that attention going and added.. Same for x85s

(would say 585 are the least appealing due to aesthetics).. But the ZXx series is a whole new level. Srixon irons have been good for a looong time... It just took a minute for everyone to catch on. This, despite not being in most golf shops. It's actually pretty remarkable.

I had some Srixon z785s about a year and a half back. Loved them. Do a search and you’ll find me contributing in numerous posts about them - to save you the time, they were the best performing irons I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned TONS!

Since then, I’ve moved on and have had a chance to reconsider whether, and how much, I enjoyed them. I sold them and bought 718MBs, then Ping i210s, then Miura CB57s, then Ping Blueprints, then 718CBs, then 620CBs, then 0311P Gen 2 and 3. Bottom line is that there are so many great iron sets right now …..

They’re all so good that I just ordered another set of z785s. After all those other sets, I’m convinced nothing performs as well as the Srixons. What they do with the sole grind is game changing, IMO. They are effortless through the turf, feel phenomenal, and are longer and more consistent than any of the other irons in the category in my experience. I’m looking forward to getting them back in the bag.

I’m on my first set of Srixon irons. I was fitted for the ZX5’s in March and put in an order through my fitter, but after waiting 8 weeks and being told it would be another 5-6 weeks minimum, I decided to cancel and picked up a set of Z785’s instead.

Couldn’t be more impressed with the 785’s, super smooth swinging, extremely soft, incredible control, and the FEEL is unreal!

I find the long irons tough to hit and not the most forgiving, but that’s more of a user issue than anything wrong with these amazing clubs. When it’s time to switch them up, will probably end up with the ZX5’s I was fit for, at least in the 5 & 6 irons for sure.

I'd been curious about Srixon irons since around 2007.  There was one of those huge green grass demos where almost every manufacturer was out.  This was in the height of the Tiger boom and before the recession. Errrbody was selling clubs. I hit every iron out there that day. But the very unexpected club I loved to hit was was the Srixon 506.  It was an incredible blend of forgivness and feel.  I'd hit the 302 before at a demo day and loved it as well.   At the time I was playing Mizuno MX-23s (an iron I believe is better than a lot of stuff Mizuno has released since) and didn't make the jump.

Srixon faded out of the US market and focused on Asia for awhile before coming back a few years ago. The 45, 65, 85 series were all very good. (Played the 565s before my current ZX5 set).  They are as good as anything out there. Everybody who has hit my clubs has loved them.  a

Glad more people are finally giving Srixon the credit they deserve. They've had great irons for a long time and now their woods have finally reached the level to contend with the top dog manufacturers. I mean look at the best irons poll, ZX7 is absolutely destroying every other iron. I love my Z 785 and Z-Forged combo set and am shocked how good my ZX5 driver is (beat a TSi3 I tested and kicked my G410 Plus out of my bag). They're not leaving the bag anytime soon.

Playing the 785s. Switched to them early last year, after a 14yr hiatus with Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pros. They feel

incredible. Got fitted for them, so kinda knew what I was getting with them. I hope to have the same run with these irons. Have the DGTI X100s in them. For me, perfect combo.

Tried the ZX5 earlier this year after wanting to try Srixon for years. Didn't really get along with them. Would prefer Apex and P790 models I've played in the players distance category in the past.

However I had been hoping someone would make a set similar to the old Mizuno MP H4s I used to play with stronger lofts for years so when the ZX4s came out I had to try a set. I really like them so far. I was also really surprised by how much I like the ZX Hybrids.

All these reviews/opinions make Srixons really intriguing. I don't get to play as much anymore, but I think the sole of the 7 series irons would be ideal for replacing my 2009 X Forged irons that I'm currently playing. Just out of curiosity, does anyone recall/know how these forgings hold up versus some of the older Callaway forged irons?

My first set of irons was dumpster dive Tommy Armour 855 Silver Scots which I had regripped and lengthened.  As a newbie, they were sometimes difficult to hit and the grooves were starting to go, which for a beginner wasn't a super big deal.  Played with those for about a year.

Then got fitted for a set of Wilson C200's, and my game instantly improved.  I think the Wilson C200's are a very underrated GI iron.  Mine were new, custom fit (+1.0") and less than $500 for a 4-GW set.  So easy to hit, forgiving, and the distance was great.

After 4 years of playing these, I walked into a golf shop and hit the ZX5's and they felt so smooth, well-balanced, long, but still forgiving.  But, at $1200, unaffordable.  So I found a set of mint almost new Z565's with the right shaft and length for $600.

I still game the C200's as they are competent irons, but only play them on dog tracks and save the Srixons for the more manicured lawns.  The Srixons I think is my last brand.  Can't say enough good things about the quality and performance of them.

Love my 585 irons (reshafted with Modus 125x SS) and recently updated wedges to all Cleveland RTX with S400.   To me they feel like Mizuno softness.   Very underrated company IMO and love that their price point is still reasonable.  I haven't tried their woods yet...

I had a set of i-506 irons for a short while in the late 2000s, shafts weren't for me so I moved on, but I really liked the head.

In 2017 got a combo set of 765/565 with Modus 120X, again really liked the heads, but shafts were a problem and caused elbow issues, I moved on to some Pings with recoils.  When the 585/785s came out, went back to Srixon, got a combo set with Recoil F5, really liked them.  This spring hey were showing wear on the face (damn sandy driving range) and started thinking of replacing them, loved the look of the ZX5/7s, but  found a new full set of 585s this spring for a good price, completely stock, thought I would give them a try despite being steel shafts.   So far they are working out great.

Srixon is one of the top company's for irons for me, no question. Somebody above mentioned Bridgestone, they also should be up there, but they really messed up the marketing here in the US.  I played almost a full bag of Bridgestone equipment back in the J33 era, but they have lost their way. , it is a shame really.

First to the op. Congrats on getting into one of the best irons out there. I've been playing the Z745's for a number of years and am pining for the new ZX7's, but it's hard to switch from something you already love.

As for holding up. I'll admit it... I use iron covers. My clubs bounce around in my truck, and I've just gotten used to using them on the course. My 745's are soft. I believe the 1020 steel is a little softer than some of the other forgings out there. After about 4 years of playing, my scoring clubs are starting to show the familiar browning/wear in the center of the face, but not any worst than forged clubs I have had in the past.

This is the 1st time ever I have took a set of irons and done this as 1st time out 1st hole par 4 330 yards dog leg right I tee'ed it up and hit my 4 iron right down the middle 200 yds with 130 yards left then hit my 9 iron to within 3 ft. and birdied it. I have birdie that hole many times but this is the 1st set of irons I felt the confidence with a long iron of the Tee especially with it lines with trees. I've also had a few other opportunities to use my 4 iron on some other different courses and my shots held the green nicely. I'm still getting used to them as they do feel amazing as right now I'm averaging between 10-12 GIR. The ZX5's are fun to hit as it's usually up to my driver or putter as to how well I score

Also 1st time in a long time some fellow golfers commented as to how nice I was hitting my irons and what kind of irons was I hitting. I keep iron covers on them but I do have a tour Srixon staff bag so that is kinda a giveaway. Then they say oh you must play a lot as those are for the better golfer as I just laugh, then I say that's not me but they do make the game more enjoyable

Well I will have to admit my Srixon ZX5 irons were the best GI irons I have ever owned. I have decided to try to adventure in the SGI which some may disagree but thats is what they have been called. 1st time owner come next week of PXG Gen 4 XP irons with MMT shafts as I just couldn't resist the temptation as the prices have dropped so much they are in the ball park with PING, Callaway, and all the others in the price range. I know the Gen 5 irons are nice but not as nice as the full asking price. I'm so glad I waited and got a huge discount especially with the Hero's pricing.

I'm eating crow as I said I would never buy anything PXG years ago but I would be a fool not to jump on the bandwagon with the big discount that I received. Now for being a 1st time Srixon owner I was very satisfied with them and if the PXG's don't work out I wouldn't hesitate in going back to Srixon, maybe the ZX4 the next time as I'm not getting any younger and I'm looking for added forgiveness, distance and feel now. Sometimes change can be good so we will see
