Leaving a tee next to someone's ball...

Apologize after they placed my ball against the tee or at minimum pushed it against the ball? Won't get it from me. I've apologized plenty of times on courses I'm unfamiliar with but I've also never had that move pulled on me.

Then don't hit a ball into them? What are you like 8 years old throwing a tantrum???

Interesting. I've never seen anyone take the 250 yard drive down that fairway to check. If it was a public course I would've understood but I expected members to know the layout on their own course.

I'll bring it up with the pro to see what he suggests.

You rarely have to take a 250 yard drive to check, just far enough to see over the hill.  The tee is a perfectly reasonable way to let you know you hit too close, and they would really prefer that you not do it again.

Have never seen the " tee " thing.

Been hit into a few times over the years, usually toss the ball back from where it came (about 100 yds), on the green ? into the bunker or pond it goes.

Would expect the same for my ball and lousy shot judgement.

This happened to me a while ago, had a group that hit into us on 3 different holes. It was a slow slow day of golf with logjams on every tee box. They didnt just hit into us.....they hit over us. I didnt see the ball come down but my playing partner said when I was addressing my shot one of their balls flew over my head and landed 10-15 yards in front of me.

Never, ever have I seen that happen before on a course. They were college/teenage kids (shocker) and one of our buddies had to go have a word with them.

Periscope.  Less intrusive than a bell.

A small sign at the top of the hill asking players to wait at the top of the hill and not in the bottom might work too.

Typically in Ohio courses, whenever there is a blind shot the course puts a little bell that players ring to let the group behind know its clear to hit. So you basically wait for the sound of the bell to tee it up.

Still waiting for the OP @JJFWebsterto say why he was so annoyed that they put a tee against his ball. This remains the greatest unanswered question in the thread. 🤔

he seems like the kinda guy who would be pissed at a paperboy for putting his newspaper in the door on a rainy day instead of leaving it on the porch to get wet.

...i mean, coming ALL the way to your door? pft.

Fault is on both sides.  1. Because you guys didn't check by riding down to see if it was clear and 2. Group in the fairway has a responsibility to make sure the group behind knows they are still in the fairway.  Especially at a private club, everyone should know the deal on a hole like that.

What!!? You want adults to act with respect and maturity... well that is just absurd!

If I (accidentally) hit into another group of players, I'd be so glad I didn't hit or injure somebody I wouldn't care if they left a tee by my ball or pulled out a Sharpie and put a rude drawing on it. I figure if I'm careless enough to hit into them I more or less deserve whatever response I get. But that's just me. I've only ever hit one person with a golf ball and I hope it never happens again.

One time a single golfer hit into our 3some. He hits a drive 50 yards past where we were walking, it sails about 20 feet directly above my head. Completely flat hole where you can easily see the green/flag from the tee box. I was pissed. We wait at that green so he can catch up with us and play with our 3some (I was against doing this lol). When the other 2 invite him to play with us, he proceeds to make a snide comment about us not playing fast enough. Screw this dude, not gonna say a word to him. He then says that the 4some behind us LET HIM PLAY THROUGH!

Really?!?!? How about not being a single on a busy day on the course and join up with a group at the starting tee box like everyone else? It was the closest I've ever come to chewing somebody out on the course.

Come to find out this guy recently graduated from Harvard and was going back to Boston in a few weeks for his first biological engineering job. Some people have all the book smarts in the world but zero common sense. Dude just existed in his own little world/bubble. He had to be on the Asperger spectrum.

You’re mad at him for being out as a single? Shouldn’t you be upset with the course?

Bit of context: It's a private club and the par 5 has a hill that obscures the view of carries over ~280 yards (3800 ft elevation). The first 4 holes played quick with no waits. We saw the group ahead when we arrived to the box on #5 but they drove under the hill a minute or two later. We waited around 5 - 6 mins, after losing sight of them, and hit. My drive was solid, caught the down slope, and got around 30 yards of roll. As we drove up we noticed the group ahead was waiting to hit 3rd shots. It surprised us but they where still ~40-50 yards beyond my ball.

Hawk #5? I always thought they needed a bell there - never seen or heard of anyone doing the tee thing!

Yes, Hawk #5! I was with my spouse last night and had her drive up. Works alright if you have the option but it would be nice to have a bell or camera like we have on #10 Raven.

Haha, works alright if your wife is along to make the drive but you won't?  LOL.

Depends if I have a cart. The group behind me drove up and waited while I hit last night. If I'm alone and waiting down the fairway, they will drive way past my box. It's just not a good situation.

When the group in front has common sense, they stay high where you can see them. I always wait 20 - 30 yards behind my ball and most others do the same.

I don't actually believe my drive flew them because I would've seen the top of their carts. Likely rolled within 20 yards. She also told me 2 balls flew over their heads which wasn't possible. My dad is 66 playing the tips with me. He hit his drive solid around 280 but it was on top of the hill which was clearly in view from the box.

Consensus here is that it's entirely my fault which is fine and I understand the viewpoint. I think with this particular hole there is some shared responsibility.

Wow....    🙄

The only person wrong by miles in this scenario is the OP. There is no shared responsibility. He really needs to get over himself. Post haste. He's a golfer that admittedly hit into the group in front of him during his round w/o checking where the group ahead of him was when he had the time and chance to and continues to caterwaul about being the allegedly aggrieved party because a tee was placed against his ball. Hate to see how the OP would react in an important real life situation. Talk about a complete lack of perspective,
