Club Glove Travel Bags?

I need a new travel bag.  Are the Club Glove bags worth the price or should I just go with a cheap bag and a stiff arm?

Go with the club glove. I have the collegiate model and have been nothing but pleased with it.

 

A golf club travel bag isn't exactly something you want to get cheap on.

ive only had a club glove so cant speak to quality in other brands but ive had mine for close to 8 years, travel with it maybe 10 times a year and it shows very very little wear at all.  its been well worth the price imo

I have two Club Gloves, just bought the second one this spring for my son as we were traveling together.  I bought a used one off of ebay for $125.  They are unbeatable IMHO.  I love them.

This x100. Once you've used the Meridian (and probably the other Sun Mountain bags as well) and see how well it handles you'll wonder what took you so long to get it. As I mentioned in another thread, my son (not quite four years old) was fully capable of pulling my fully loaded bag through the airport on a recent trip. My wife and I took many, many golf trips with traditional style travel bags and pulling the bags through the airport was always a pain (both literally and figuratively), the Meridian has made it so much better it's unbelievable. For me, the Meridian has everything that the Club Glove has for a similar price, but with much, much better handling.

Second the Club Glove. I travel with a set up clubs at least 20 times/yr. (Bring them on work trips).

 

Combined with a stiff arm its a great combination. The outer shell material is very durable, and other than dirt from travel, it is still in great shape. 

 

Hard shell cases are great for protecting your clubs, but a real drag to travel with and fit into rental cars.

The Sun Mountain bags look awesome - that rolling mechanism seems like it's a real win.

 

That said, for those of us who have regular travel bags, here's  one tip that can help really alleviate the "airport arm fatigue syndrome" of dragging around a golf bag: put the clubs into your regular golf bag clubheads down.. This puts most of the weight down by the wheels, and makes the weight of the bag on your arm and shoulder much less.

 

This won't work for those who have 14-way dividers, though.

my irons and a hybrid worked fine upside down with a 14 way Nike slim cart bag.

just lever them in gently. most divider openings are sufficient for all but the most oversize iron heads.

my putter fit thru the driver opening, though I learned to wrap that head in a sock first to avoid nicks from the other clubs.

found my CG, NOS with a logo for under $100. terrific deal.

use the stiff arm or couple of four foot wooden dowels, 1" diameter to stiffen up your bag.

Cool. I didn't know that was the case. I tried with a friend's bag and didn't want to risk damaging things, so didn't really try to force the issue. Good to know, for sure.

Love my Club Glove Collegiate. I'd go for the bigger one so you can fit more clothes/stuff and double it as a suitcase. Very durable. 

 

No experience with the Sun Mountain Meridian but I'd just highly recommend going with something that's not a hard case, so you have the flexibility to pack more stuff into it. I'd also be wary of weight of the Sun Mountain, I like to buy stuff on my trips so often I get close to the check in weight limits.

The handle on the top of the Club Glove is large enough to loop over the extended handle of a suitcase, making it easier to pull around an airport.

I have a Collegiate and a stiff arm.  Great combo.  Absolutely zero complaints.

2 collegiates and 2 stiff arms here.  First collegiate is 20 years old.  Still in great shape.  I specifically went with the collegiate over the bigger one because with the bigger one, yes, it holds more stuff, but it will quickly exceed 50 pounds if you’re not careful.

They are absolutely worth the money. I've had one for close to 20 years now, and it still works great.

I bought "2" ClubGlove Burst Proof II with Stiff Arms back in 2013, don't recall cost. 

 

Before purchasing ClubGlove, we had multiple travel bags under $150, that lasted up to 5yrs.  None of them were problem free nor did they make traveling with golf bags easy.  Constant annoying problems like, zippers, wheels breaking or falling off, the bag would roll over sideways when hitting curbs or steps, no bottom plate protection or extra inside space.  And they were problematic for TSA too.

 

My travel schedule used to be grueling.  Anyway, a resounding YES in favor of ClubGlove - they were worth the investment, so was the Stiff Arms.  We take two-four golf trips per year, and leaving soon on another golf trip.  I will stick my, golf shoes, snorkel gear and fins inside the bag.  The ClubGlove bags are stored in their respective boxes in a garage cabinet.  After 8yrs later they look relatively unscathed.  There's a huge reason why so many tour players rely on them.  They will comfortably last the rest of my life.

Great tip about putting your clubs in upside down to get the weight at the bottom BTW. 👍

Why didn't you send it back to Glub Glove? They have a lifetime guarantee.

 

After 10 years the stitching broke on one of the web straps on my bag. I sent it to them and they repaired it for me.

Hmmm...I may still have the bag somewhere. The fabric on the underside of the top of the bag just wore out. It get thin and tore open in several places. The same thing happened to my buddy on a trip to Scotland, and he lost wedge in transit as a result.

I'd give them a call. If you sent them photos they might decide that it's too worn to repair, and they might replace it. Worst case they have you ship it to them, and they replace the worn panels. You could probably sell it for a decent buck. Used ones tend to go quickly.

Just FYI, their warranty terms have changed.   It's now limited lifetime - which means the useful life of the product at their determination - and covers defects, not normal wear and tear or airline damage.

 

They offer a no questions asked one that covers 5 years for $79.

I have a large last bag. It’s done great for me for the last 10 year but i had a gusset at the bottom rip out and asked to get replaced and they told me the material was likely the issue.  We are still working on the arrangements.  I assume they will replace but have been hesitant to. 
 

I have been considering replacing with a sun mounting glider tour or meridian. Just because of the glider.  The only thing I have not enjoyed about my last bag CG is when packing I always get the center of gravity off and it hangs to one side or so.   I usually pack multiple pairs of golf shoes and I wear a 14 and a lot of times they shift and your either having to unzip and unbuckle to get it straight or trying to tug the handle to offset the pulling.  It gets annoying at time.   That glider appeals to me

Sun Mountain with the glider is awesome. I've had mine for like 3 years and I couldn't imagine flying with any other travel bag. It rolls smoother than my suitcases.
