Who else mostly walks off after 9 holes ?

Prefer 18 but I play mostly late afternoon so 9 - 12 holes is usually where I get before I run up on slower foursomes and have to call it.

I play 18 holes 3-4x a week and 9 holes maybe 3-4x a year. If I'm going to drive 20 miles each way to the golf course I'm not often going to just play 9 holes then quit and drive back home. Not worth it.

I will sometimes practice for a while and then go play a few holes to try out the stuff I've been practicing but that's not necessarily 9 holes. It might be 4 or 9 or 11 or how many ever it takes to figure out whatever I'm working on.

Local muni is very relaxed about moving around course when it's slow. I'll sometimes play the front and then 10, 11, 12, 18. Leads right back to parking lot  Lucky 13 holes.

Will only do so if nobody is coming down 17.

Can also do 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18.

Tee box for 18 is just next door to 12's green. Box for 17 next door to 13's green. So it's v easy to play 9, 13, 15 or 18 total holes.

personally, I only play 9 holes since that is all I can manage with my limitations and disabilities (Dyspraxia and Autism - Aspergers) Luckily my local course allow me to choose which 9 holes I can play (if not busy) . so I usually alternate between the 2 9's which suits me just fine and if there are quicker groups behind I let them through.

I walk 9 to 11 holes twice a week, alone, and use a cart for 18 once a week with a regular 4some.

One course I play at has 27 holes and a 9 hole rate.   They have tee times starting at 7:30am on each 9.  So playing 9 is easy.  from 9:30 to 11:30 there are no tee times unless they can work you in if someone stopped after 9 holes.  9:30 to 11:30 is when everyone is making the turn onto another 9 for the back side.

I play a lot of 9 holes walking alone at my club.  I use a follow cart.  Its hard to walk 18 in the FL heat.  I can also play 11 holes as the walk from 11 to 12 goes right past the clubhouse.   Its a tough walking course as its VERY long from green to tee.  The shortest walk is at least 100 yards.  Some as long as 1/4 mile.

I think a quick 9 is to do with how long it takes from home/work to the course and back. In smaller cities and towns 9 holes on weekdays is pretty common, or an early or late 9 holer in summer. But if you need two hours to reach the course you’d never think about only playing 9 holes I’m afraid.

I play 9 holes once or twice a week and on summer Sundays. I’m 15 minutes away from my course which is private so I hit whenever I show up save on Saturdays.

Im with you. Unless I am playing with some guys I know and riding a cart, I would much rather play 9 and actually work on my game. This to me beats beating balls on the range. Real life situations and practicing a shot.

Normally not but things that bring a 9 hole round are time, weather and pace of play. almost always it is the latter. There are rounds where you wait for every shot except putts and he can only stomach so much watching hacks butcher up the course with their ridiculous lack of talent to play the game. And the 5-12 handicappers thinking they are special...so f'ing special...they're creeps. HIT the ball fool! And you wankers foursomes where you all watch each other hit, I'm the guy hitting onto you....

Since we are heading back into the office starting next month I got a 6:04 Monday and will see if I can squeeze 18 before I head in. I don't think I can, but my first meeting isn't until 10 and it's 40 minutes to the office, so it might be close.

But this is another reason why I'm usually good with a quick 9.

🤣

A couple weeks ago there was a foursome like that ahead of me. I don't think they were members of our club because I didn't recognize them but they were what I now think of as "young guys" (i.e. in their 40's).

They'd drive both carts to the first ball in the fairway and literally all get out of the carts to watch the first guy do his TV-golf-inspired little poser-ish waggles and practice swings. Then he'd finally hit the ball and they'll all clamber back in the carts to move forward 20 yards to do it again at the next guy's ball. Each of them had a different excruciating "routine" before his shot. It was like some sort of weird experimental theater performance art.

I will say there was one skinny guy whose "routine" was to get out of the cart, walk purposefully to his ball and just rear back and give the ball a whack. I was tempted to go find them after the round and ask him how he ended up playing with these three other bozos.

More 9 hole golf courses would be great for the growth of the game.

If the price of the 9 holes is actually commensurate which I find on many courses it's not.  For instance they will have a $35 walking rate on the weekend for 18 but still charge $25-27 for 9 holes.  I'm not saying it should be 1/2 of the 18 hole price ($17.50).  I get the concept that there should be a price benefit for playing 18 but how about $20-22 instead?

9 hole rates at 18 hole courses is fine, but I favor actual 9-hole courses as well as driving ranges . The USGA, PGA, PGA Tour, major golf equipment companies etc..  could truly help "grow the game" by subsidizing the development and maintenance of these type learning facilities.

I've never heard of a course not having a 9 hole rate.

I don't know what it was like pre-COVID (I came back to the game last summer) but most of the courses around me in SoCal don't have 9 hole rates, except occasionally early in the morning if you go off the back 9.

Courses are so packed with people willing to pay & play 18 holes... Why would they try to fit players in at a reduced rate to only play 9?

Didn't say it was wrong. I've never played a course over the last 35 years that wouldn't let you pay for just 9 holes. That course just doesn't exist around here.

I took my grandson to the club Monday after work and it was empty, but we were running late. Played 1, 4, 5 and 7 in an hour with a cart (he likes to drive). It worked out perfect.

It's only his 3rd time on a course and he's really loving it. The club it a great length for him.

The fairway dies back and gets crazy in the fall. The greens are mostly green 🤣

There are a few reasons we were the only ones there at 5:00. We don't have to worry about holding folks up or hitting anybody. I love my ghetto club.

I played my first 9 at Claremont this morning. I've been thinking about joining there, but the proximity to houses makes me uneasy. 🤣

It's close to the office, but it's twice what I pay now. It's a nicer course, but I can't hit anything at my current club.
