Mizuno Irons

Does anyone have any experience ordering and playing Mizuno irons bent stronger? 

I would like to buy a set but most of the lofts I want are 3° strong. This is pushing the limit on bending and I would not want to have to check loft/lie after every round and make adjustments.

 

For reference on this, I have and use the Mitchell loft/lie equipment.

What is the reasoning of bending this much vs going for something with stronger loft?

 

Usually it is not recommended since you'll be changing the bounce and the sole geometry of the clubs as well

Nevek, I am aware of the bounce being changed. Please consider that not all of us are major divot makers.

The reasoning should be obvious-I play a set with stronger lofts, but I love Mizuno feel. 

If you have no experience with this there is no reason to respond.

Depends on the irons. For example, the Mizuno website says the lies of their Mizuno Pro 120 (MP20 in USA) can be adjusted by 4 degrees, and if you can adjust the lies by that much, then the lofts should be OK too. 

 

I recently bought a 2020 Mizuno Pro #4 Fli Hi and wanted to weaken the loft. I rang up Mizuno, and they said anything up to 1.5* was OK.

 

I also bought a custom set of old MS-11s that had been strengthened by 3 or 4 degrees depending on the iron, and I had no problem bending them 3~4* back to their original specs. Incidentally, they looked horrible at address before I bent them back: looked like tons of offset.

 

So, the pure forged irons should be OK, but the cast irons and some of the newer clubs with mixed materials might be problem.

for what it’s worth, Vijay Singh play his Mizuno MB20’s 4 degrees weak. What is that worth?? I suppose it means it can be done and done without compromising the integrity of the metal all that much. As for the other sequella, you seem to be aware of them, and that 3* of loft change is unusual. But hey, the world’s never be made better by people who do “the usual”.

I would say go with ordering them bent strong. The only down side would be that you are going to have to wait up to 7 weeks right now for a set of irons.

Mizuno will only bend iron lofts up to 2* strong/weak at the factory.  You'll have to find a shop to get you to 3*.

I have bent Mizuno forged irons 3* weak and 2* strong.  In theory it should be possible, but even if you're not a "divot maker", this much reduction in bounce is most likely going to be quite problematic.
