I haven't tested the pxg but someone in the pxg drivers/fairways/putters thread in the Tour and Pre Release forum noted that they found the proto and gen4 fairways to be a bit spinny.

I have tested sim and sim2 ti and they are not spinny. They are fairly low spin and are long. They are not overly forgiving.

Gen4, Proto vs OG TI or Sim2

Thanks all..

OG SIM Ti by a mile and its not close. I went from SIM and upgraded to SIM2. SIM was better in ball speed and control/dispersion im guessing behind a slightly larger head shape

Proto was nice to look at behind the ball but I could not for the life of me get the spin down. Sounds good, looks good, feels good, plays awful haha.

Gen4 was an upgrade over Proto but thats not saying much. Speed was still slower than both SIM's. More spin than both SIM's but less than Proto. Easy to hit and looks great but again I think PXG missed the mark on fairways (however love the driver and hybrids)

SIM2 and Gen4 will be the smallest heads. Proto and OG SIM are similar IMO but I never looked at any of them side by side

Proto consistently had highest launch and spin no matter what shaft and weight configuration I tried

Not certain about 3 woods but I’ve got both the Sim ti and Sim2 ti (3 woods) and prefer the Sim2 ti over the Sim ti purely off head size as the Sim2 is more shallow.  Only going there because I just picked up a Gen4 5 wood and it beat my Sim ti 5 wood.  Both in distance, dispersion and being able to hit it off the deck (at least for me).  The Sim I struggled with off the deck in both the 3 wood and 5 wood.  Sim2 3 wood is easier for me to hit off the deck and why I went with it (same shaft) but in the 5 wood the Gen 4 is a beast.  Just got it a couple days ago and could be the honeymoon phase but I put it to the test on a very long and tight course and it performed beautifully.

Anymore updates on this? Need to lower my spin on my 3 wood. Currently have a Speeder 757 TS in my Proto 3 wood. All I see is that the Sim Ti is the way to go. Would like to hear the Gen4 is good enough, but not seeing it. Love the shape of the Gen4 though. Saw a Sim2 Ti yesterday and it looked so good.

BTW, use my 3 wood primarily off the deck.

I think both are very easy to hit off the deck. Both SIM's will be lower spin IMO. For off the deck you might actually prefer the Gen4 over the SIM. Both SIM's are bombers and might be harder to control and hold greens

I had the proto before Gen4 and could never get spin down. 5 different shafts, multiple head weight configurations and always super spinny. Gen4 does drop spin vs the proto

If you're interested I have a Gen4 2 wood I bought 2nd hand and never used. I love my TM Mini 300 too much to even bother trying the 2 wood. I have no use for a fairway wood

Appreciate the help. If Gen4 can bring the spin down some that would be really good. I love the shape of the Gen4 3 wood. Maybe I should just pickup a Gen4 and plug my shaft in it.

I think the 2 wood would not be good for me off the deck. I don’t use a 3 wood off the tee much. Thanks though.

I've hit:

Sim ti

Sim2 ti

Pxg proto

Pxg gen4 x and xf

The gen4 heads are the only ones I haven't owned.

I could never get the proto or the gen4 heads to work. I loved the proto with a couple other shafts, but it was a no-go with my gamer shaft.

I had that same gamer shaft in the sim ti and sim2 ti. Both worked ok to good. The only reason the SIMs were less than really good is that they sit closed. To open the face they have to be delofted to 14.25 or lower. For me, a low launcher, that's just not enough loft.

I'm now trying a tour issue sim ti. 15.6 loft and 1 degree open face in std setting.

If the proto just doesn't feel right or flight right then I would hesitate on the other gen4 stuff. If you like the sim lines and you don't mind the closed look at address then you just need to select which sim ti...

Sim ti appears to have a more forward center of gravity. Sim2 ti appears more rearward cog. The rearward "should" launch a touch higher and spin a touch more. I liked the sim2 ti a lot. Just didn't have enough loft. I feel that it would have been a 16 degree head that I could loft down and stay above 15 degrees then it would have been phenomenal. But my initial impressions of the sim ti tour issue head I have are really good too.

Btw, you may want to give the mizuno stz a go. It's a very, very stable head and launches well even at one notch lower loft (13.8). I recommend that club to anyone who doesn't rely on sidespin for shot shaping.

Thanks man. Great stuff. I went and looked at the Sim2 Ti at the golf store yesterday and it l liked the look of it address. I think that is something I could play. Might be the ticket for me after your info and others.

If you can, reduce the front weight in the proto by 5g and slap 5g of lead tape in the dead center back. That'll give you an idea of how the sim and sim2 ti will differ. Not exact, but you'll get an idea of feel difference and how the weight shift affect delivery.
