Who doesn’t love another Bandon trip report…😁 (with pics)

I flew into North Bend on Sunday. I see why some caution people about flying in there- due to diverting. There were low clouds (in July 🤷‍♂️), and there were 30mph winds out of the North. It is a short runway, and the runway/planes do not have autoland capability at that field. We made it though. 👍😁

First round was on SR at 4:00pm. Wind was 30 gusting to 35mph? Hard to tell when it’s that severe. It was silly conditions, that I would NOT play in if I was home. Felt a bit bad for my friend. There was a marine layer right off the cliffs, so the views were drastically limited. I thought SR was in pretty good condition. 16 was a brute into the wind. I tried to flight a PW from 105, and failed! We putted for grins from 105, and my putt was closer. 🤣🤦‍♂️

we stayed in Lily Pond (room 312). They are a short walk from main lodge, and you can walk to Trails/Preserve from there. we did have ants in the room. We noticed it on day 2. 😕

Day 2 was Pac in morning and Preserve in afternoon. It seemed like a “normal” weather day. Partly cloudy/sunny in morning; winds 10+ mph in morning, and they slowly picked up throughout the round. I’m glad I got to see Pac under normal conditions. I got beat up in 25+ mph winds last year on Pac. It should be noted the conditions in the fairways weren’t what I would expect from Pac. They had some GUR/sandy spots. Not a big deal. Greens were quick and true.
The surprise was Preserve. I thought it would be an easy affair; not in 20-25mph winds! It eases you into the round with downwind/crosswind holes, but the holes into the wind are TOUGH. I think it would be most fun as a 2 v 2 fourball. Winning team picks next tees sort of thing. Also, my friend and I both almost aced 13 with putters. 🤣🤣🤣

As we were walking off Preserve we noticed 6-8 people all with the same Taylormade bags. I also noticed a guy with a white TM hat and peculiar sunglasses. I thought, “that looks like Harry Higgs.” I then walked into Knudson and Tony Covey! They were nice enough to chat. They were there for a TM event. Glad to see Tony get a little time off after the ball test.

Day 3 was Old Mac and Bandon.
Old Mac was great. It was my first time seeing it. We teed off in almost CALM conditions and sunny skies. 😁

I played the greens. The back is long, and the wind picked up. I kinda wished I would have moved up a tee on the back.
We were tuckered out by Bandon, and played modified alternate shot. It was refreshing, and the views were great. 4-6 might be the greatest stretch in golf.😁 I remembered the bounce/runout I got coming into 9 green from a year ago, and put it to good use. I used 6 iron from 230, and ran it up nicely to 20 feet. We 2 putted for birdie.
We bumped into and chatted with H Higgs at the turn. Super nice guy, and I was surprised to hear he plays P770. I figured he’d be a blade guy. Just goes to show how hard blades are to hit.
It was another great trip. I hesitate to give my ranking, because they are all different. So I’ll do the 10 round split…
