St George / Hurricane area bars and restaurants

Hey all, 

have played the area a bunch but usually stay at the eureka in mesquite.  Going vrbo route and staying near sand hollow.  Looking for recommendations for post round beers, sports bars to watch football, hopefully with great/good food.  I like eating at the sand hollow clubhouse, and have eaten at the bbq joint in hurricane.  Any other locals and/or visitors recommend any other watering holes??

We ate there last trip.  Pricey and Pretentious, IMHO, great place if you like to take pictures of your food.  Cappeletti's still open?  RSinSG recommended it and it was great.

Pricey?  Compared to MacDonalds?

 

Ribeye $35.  Tenderloin $33- 38.  Seared Tuna $32.  Lamb $36.  That's Cheap!!!!!!!!

Hopefully it's still nice...we were there in 2004....I had the butternut squash ravioli.

I can't remember the name...there was a family style restaurant on the main strip that had the most AMAZING dinner rolls.

 

My regret was not have more time to golf in St. Georges and not playing Wolf Creek on the way back to Vegas.

 

We went Zion National Park after golf one day.

 

Oh ya...I forgot.....I think there's a really nice 9 hole course that's in a canyon???.....surrounded by red rock...the red rock & green fairways were beautiful....we didn't play it...we just drove by...I think it's in the city by the college???...would be worth it to play just for the beauty???....I think it's called Dixie Hills????

It’s Dixie Ref Hills, the first course in SG. I’ve played it a few times but it’s not a favorite. Lots of new players and families with kids. Not that either of those are bad, but it is something to consider

Late to the convo, but the best restaurant/bar in the area is Wood Ash Rye

Had some very good sushi after a day mnt biking in the park at Sapporo (sp?) right off the freeway.  The Zion roll was killer.

We are thinking of moving to the area. If we are not Mormon will we feel out of place? I am headed there in two weeks but any thoughts on bars and anyone play Bloomington CC lately? Do you know how the members are there? Any info much appreciated...

I’ve lived in SG since 2009, and you don’t need to belong to a church to feel welcome here. There are lots of things to do here no matter what your interests are, and in reality Mormons make good neighbors.

 

The state runs and operates all the liquor stores so they’re all very clean and not sketchy. I think there’s 3 or 4 in the area. You won’t find bars on every corner in Utah because of most cities zoning, and the bars in Utah are within restaurants like sports bars. If you prefer a typical stand alone bar Mesquite is a short drive and it also has casinos.

As far as Bloomington, I haven’t played it since Sun River 55+ community partnered with it several years ago so I don’t have updated course conditions. It’s a typical 1970’s layout in a neighborhood that doesn’t have the views some of the other courses here do. It’s flat and IMO not a course I would choose to be the main course I played. I don’t know about the price but I prefer playing the city owned courses as they are still reasonable and more interesting.
