LLWS ⚾️

It's not really the LLWS this year!  The world teams are not involved.  There have already been a number of DQs due to covid testing.  The LL is doing an absolute shite job managing the situation!  It is a really bad showing by the LL.

What's worse, with the mismanagement of the event people across the US have turned the LLWS into a political battle ground!  There are threads, protests, fighting happening as people claim that there are differences btw. D and R states! Laughable to say the least.

It is truly disappointing.  As a coach of LL locally, it has really soured me.

Oh they’re not?! Dang, I didn’t know that 😞 Sad face for all the things you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

*So far the games I have watched have been entertaining. So I’m going to stay positive and look at the glass as half full.

Is anyone familiar with how these teams are put together?  Locally all the best players play travel ball with USSSA while USA baseball (traditional little league, Babe Ruth, Dixie, etc.) is more of a neighborhood rec league.  However, I can’t imagine some of these kids are only playing a 25 game season in a rec league throwing mid 70s breaking pitches.  Is USA baseball a bigger deal in some parts of the country?

It’s just regular little league all star teams. I’d bet the kids also play travel ball. ie. Tommy John by HS! 🤪 It would be nice to hear from someone that has more details.

@puttnforthe8 ?

Little League is across the country.  Most places have a Spring and a Fall league.  The Spring league is the one that leads to the LLWS.

Example how it works (I coach in AZ):   There are multiple LL Districts in any given state.  AZ has 14.  Within each district there will be XX number of leagues and then within the leagues XX number of teams.  At the end of the season - each League will select All Stars from all the teams in their league (so if there are 6 teams, you pick kids from those 6 teams).  That forms your League All-Star team. Now you have a District Level Tournament with the winner advancing to the State tournament representing the district.  So in AZ there is a 14 team Double Elim tourney.  The winner is then the representative for AZ in the LLWS tourney.

There are plusses and minuses to this construct -  It's not always the best 'players' representing a state.  Although, there are ways to stack a district if you wanted - the boundary lines can be manipulated some.

Most of all the better kids play club ball - you could argue if you took the best club ball team from a state, it would be a better representation.

In the end Little League, is one of many options, but has the clout and notoriety.

In my area (SF Bay Area) travel ball has all the clout. My son (now 22) started in LL and right about the time he was in 5th/6th grade travel ball started blowing up. A lot of kids left the local LL and joined travel teams. Most (maybe all) the travel teams had Fall and Spring teams so a majority of the kids didn’t go back to the local LL teams at all.

Same here in AZ...but many of the kids do want a shot at the LLWS.
