Little upset that the rain has neutered the course a bit from being the beast it can be.

Some good early matches but some kind of blowouts recently, hoping for a good weekend. Piss poor job not showing the quaterfinals right now on golf channel or peacock

Funny how the course is being made a mockery of at the USGA's own event.  Concerned about the tight fairway and bunkers on number 1?  No problem bomb it down the 9th fairway.  Concerned about the church pew bunkers?  No problem, bomb it over into the next fairway, might as well they just be rough.  Maybe that's why the tv coverage is so bad, usga and oakmont members are embarassed to see the course played that way.  Nothing against the players, it's the smart way to play it.  Vick - Greaser are playing great, should be a good match.  Also a little upset about the rain affecting conditions as mentioned above, would've liked to see the greens at their firmest and fastest.

These massive expectations the USGA sets for conditions/weather, pace of play, rulings, how a hole should be played and scoring is only hurting their tournaments and reputation.

The USGA consistently sets themselves up for failure by focusing on the wrong things

Re play from other fairways - I recently heard it was considered to add in course / internal out of bounds

that is extreme solution , but it is a problem there or at least a less than desirable test of golf.

Some of these holes it takes out all the bunkers, it creates a better angle into the green

I’d suggest - maybe inland courses need trees as part of the routing.  Or at least  in regions where trees are natural    W. Pa trees are here,  maybe Neb it is different , but in Neb you can build course over 300-400 acres

Congratulations to Austin Greaser and James Piot who advance tomorrow to the final match to bring home the Havemeyer Trophy. Very impressive skills displayed today under serious pressure at historic Oakmont.

Really enjoyed the last hour or so of televised coverage and looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

If you've paid attention, this is match play. Not stroke play and nobody yelling "mashed potatoes." Perhaps that's more your cup of tea.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the skill set which a player must have to play competitive golf.

Enjoyed what I've seen.  Matchplay with only two groups on the course is awkward to televise, but it hasn't been horrible.   These kids hit it a long way, but in terms of stroke play scoring, they're not beating up on Oakmont.  Rain in the summer, that just happens, and it has taken some fear out of the greens.

I was at Oakmont on Wednesday and in Pgh all week.

The weather dictated the tournament results.   Half of the field had to play Oakmont on Monday when it was dry and firm.   Something like only 4 of those 156 golfers made the cut to match play.   The other half of the field that played at Long Vue CC on Monday then got to play Oakmont for their second round after it rained faired much better.   Sixty of the 156 golfers that played Oakmont after it soften up made the cut.

It has rained a lot this week in Pittsburgh.   Oakmont has gotten around 5 inches, and the players were sticking mid and long irons played into the greens.

Mabye it looks better in person, but the wide views, with no trees, really don't look good to me. That view from 9 with the big smokestacks was pretty ugly. I know it's a good course, but I don't like the way it looks.

Course is a straight up beast. The greats call it maybe the best test of golf there is.

Par was originally 80!

The King puts it up there…

To me that just adds to the grand scale of everything at that course. Pittsburgh is also a big industrial town so it’s part of the landscape. That being said, it’s from a powerplant that’s being decommissioned so it may disappear soon anyway.

Oakmont isn’t supposed to be a beautiful golf course, just a brutal test of golf. I’ve had the good fortune to play there a few times and the course does play significantly different wet vs. dry. My scores were significantly different too. Not sure how I feel about these guys playing down different holes, but it’s match play so you do what gives you the best chance. I don’t recall what the pros did in 2016, but it’s funny the idea of placing trees just off some tees feels like it’s back on the table after they removed all but a couple. Internal OB is not a good idea IMO.

Glad we finally got a good amount of coverage today as the match has been excellent. Broadcasting crew is doing a great job.

Edit, spoke too soon. As soon as it hit 6:00 my local news came on and I lost all coverage 😡

Gotta feel for Greaser (and all the U.S Am runners up tbh) being that close to biggest win in amateur golf and all the perks that the winner gets, but that's golf I guess.

How so? I’m fairly certain (99.9 percent certain) that the runner up still gets an exemption in The Masters and The United States Open. They’ll still get same invites to any amateur event in the country, or PGA Tour Invitational provided they ask (say the runner up is from Central Florida, I can guarantee they’ll get an invite to the API hypothetically speaking). It’s a tully unfortunate to me, because runner up is almost as good as winning you just don’t get a trophy.

I thought the coverage wasn’t great.  The weather had something to do early in the week.  With Golf Channel, NBC, Peacock and NBCSN, they could have continued delayed coverage and showed the entire match on their platforms.
