Long story short, someone turned in my new rangefinder!

 

 

Just got back into playing this year after a couple of shoulder surgeries, got some new lighter irons, and Leupold just sent me a very reduced-price GX-2c as a replacement for my 10+ year old GX-1 that had a failing display.

 

Played this past Saturday after not playing for a couple weeks, and realized I must have left the rangefinder clipped to the cart's rear basket my last time out.  Public course, so I figured it was a done deal that the thing was gone.

 

But I called the course anyway on Sunday, and the woman in the pro shop told me they had it!  Not only that, but she was like, "Oh, yeah, we get these things turned in all the time."  So not only was mine turned in, but lots of other are regularly turned in.

 

So, thank you, honest golf community!

 

Now I just need to find a way to make it accessible, secure, and not at risk of loss due to a failing memory...

Attach your car keys to it.  You'll never leave the course without it.

Regardless of whether I'm riding or walking I keep mine in the rangefinder pocket on my bag. Pull it out, get the distance, and put it back in the pocket. I never leave it behind because it's always in my bag.

Same here, so maybe I accumulated enough karma points to have it paid back.

It already has. Yesterday, I made a 8 footer. I was thinking "Dear God, thank you so much. You kindly limit the damage to only a double bogey."

Thanks for the input on ways to keep track of it. 

 

Don't have a pocket on the bag I can easily use, but I've decided to take that approach and use a big locking carabiner to clamp the case onto the plastic handle at the top of the bag.  Case has a cheap plastic clip on it, but it also has a heavy-duty nylon "belt loop" on the back, and I can put the carabiner through that loop to attach it to the bag at the start of each round.  Then just unclip and put in a pocket until the next round.

 I found and turned in a really nice custom Odyssey putter cover today ( then again I still use a Bullseye .....)

Working at a course for several years... I'd say most would turn it in.  We have a bin full of head covers and another of clubs (several have sat in there for months) in the back.  It always amazes me that folks wouldn't return to claim clubs... oh well.  Granted.... rangefinders will test the morals of the group that walk the line in this category.  If I had to guess.... 95+% would return it to the pro shop.

Just as an addition shoutout to Leupold’s customer service, I had bought a GX-1 about 4 years ago at the end of a season.  I had some trouble getting readings from it during an outing and then it basically sat until next season.  A few rounds in, it became obvious that it must be defective and it was past the point were I could have returned it to the reseller.  I contacted Leupold and they sent me a replacement immediately with a return shipping label for the defective unit.

Fact. That being said if this is a win, it seems like extremely low expectations for humanity.

Well, if humanity were to give me a reason to have higher expectations, I might. 

 

This was one checkmark on the right side of the ledger, but unfortunately doesn't balance out all the ones on the other side.

A couple  of years  ago, I turned in an old children's batting glove. It could have been a throwaway that blew out of the trashcan. 

Later we found out it belonged  to a 7 year old boy  and his grandfather gave it to him before he passed away.

 You never know what something means.
