Name 5 things you're grateful for (in golf)

1. Proximity.  I am so lucky that I live 5 minutes from two public courses.  They are clean and well maintained.  A great value for the casual golfer.
2. Cost.  I pay $35 in a relatively high COL area.  (Westchester, NY)  I have many other interests, so joining a club does not make sense.  2x a week for 3 months adds up to $800.  
3. Schedule.  Allows me to play on weekdays, as a single.  Courses are not mobbed.  I typically walk 9 in about 2 hours.  I can get a tee time same day.  I often book the time the night before or an hour before I play.  10am+ is always available.  I bet I can even walk earlier, because no shows, but have never tried. 
4. Fitness.  Middle aged now, but I am still athletic and fit.  Have eaten right and exercised my entire adult life.  I never take a cart.  Half the fun is the walk now.  Glad I can still enjoy this game!
5. Mental maturity.  I have realistic expectations.  (Shooting high 90s with zero practice/range)  Golf is hard.  I do not have delusional expectations.  I never get angry.  I accept misses, and celebrate the outlier successes.  I lay up and play the smart percentages.

Awesome topic. I'll chime in:

 

1. Proximity as well. I live just outside of Pinehurst. Rarely play the actual resort, but I'll get a call a couple times a year to join in for a round at no cost. There are plenty of tracks in this area to keep me happy, and I have a great friend who is a member at a club here that let's me play for $25-35. 

2. Mental Escape: Golf lets me escape from a stressful (but fulfilling) career, and as much as I love them: also my wife and daughter. My wife knows when it's time for me to play. Apparently I get super agitated if I go long without getting to the course. 

3. Gratification: I was never an outstanding player, so to speak. The lowest index I ever had was +1. Nowadays I'm around a three hcp, but I still love when that "once or twice a year" round pops up out of nowhere and I shoot par or below.

4. Equipment: I'm a club junkie and I love tinkering with new gear and testing stuff out. 

5. Humility: Golf keeps me humble.

1. Proximity- I'm within 10 miles to at least 5 above average public courses. Have good friends who are members to some CC that are very close as well.

 

2. My home course has a very nice practice facility.

 

3. I live 5 minutes from a top 100 golf academy.

 

4. I'm fortunate to have made friends with many who are inside the golf industry and have gotten many perks as well as Learn alot of stuff I otherwise might not be privy too.

 

5. I'm also very grateful at the golf friends I have made, including guys who have played PGA tour events, KFT as well as LPGA. I'm in a golf rich area for being in a northern state.

1. Proximity - I live within minutes of my brain.

Only one real thing that ultimately matters.  I made a great new friend.  We have been playing in all events together for 5 years now.  All the other guys at the course call us each others second spouse!

 Proximity- live across street from expensive course but they permit me to play a few holes after closing

 Fitness- still , strong , lean and flexible ( good euro genes , I guess)

 My kids encourage my golf habit

 My Miami location permits year round golf

 Italian alzheimers- I only remember the people I hate-so I make friends easily ( even if they are the same ones ....)

1. Standing invites to play with about 35 guys twice a week.

2. My good euro genes were only so good, I was a 9 on my own. Started plying with a senior 20 years ago who took me under his wing and helped me along, he got me to a two.

3. Glad hanging out with friends is more important than my score, which really helps with my enjoyment.

4. My wife has started playing so when we are older we have something to do together.

5. I have met a ton of great folks on the course, and many on this website as well.
