Gen 2 PXG 0311T/P combo mistake?

Recommended Posts

I've looked around and I know each side can argue for both, but before I get something that I'll hate, I want to see what other say.

I currently game the gen 1 PXG 0211 and sit as a 9 handicap. My long irons I hit quite well, but my scoring irons are all over the place. I think that's because of the larger sole and bounce profile with my shallow angle of attack (I'm more of a sweeper).

With PXG prices being super low on the leftover gen 2 0311's, I wanted to upgrade and get a set.

I know I want the 0311T in my scoring irons, but should I get the 0311P in my longer irons (6-4) as they would be slightly closer to the 0211 I play now? Or should I get a full set of the 0311T? Are they are manageable at the long irons?

I hope I can help, but not with Gen2. Was a 9 hdcp, now down to a 7 at least. I have played the OG 0211’s since their release, sold them, went Gen3 T’s, then back to the OG 0211’s. The T’s hurt my game the way I swinging back then.

Fast fwd to the “price drop” and was fit for Gen3 P’s. Went head to head against my 0211’s and the P’s won. I tried to talk my fitter in going 4-7P and 8-GW T. He said NO. Lol. I kinda wished I went T’s in the scoring irons. It’s ok, 7th round with the P’s and my score keeps dropping. Irons getting dialed in and shot 75 today. I know they are not Gen2, but Gen3 are just so good for me.

Not sure if that helps.

So you have a full set of 0311P's? I know they are gen 3, but how different are they compared to the 0211s? Is the offset and sole both smaller I'd assume, but by a noticable difference?

I never much minded the 0211's in the long irons, and since they are a "progressive set" I figured the P's would match a bit closer in the 4, 5, and 6. I just can't help but think I should just get the T's throughout for some reason.

I tend to draw/hook on my misses, so the less offset should help in theory. Just not sure.

If you scored well with the gen 1 0311, I would stick with a combo set in the gen 2's. There isn't much sole width difference in the t vs p. But the P is definitely more forgiving. That is what the pxg fitter told me. The biggest thing with the T is the lack of offset.

With the $89 per club deal on the Gen 2, it is a no brainer to get them.

I had the gen 1 0211 irons, not the 0311. This is my first dive into them because of that big price reduction.

I just don't know if I should do a full set of T or if I should still look at a progressive combo with the P at the long irons as it would be more similar to what I play in the 0211.

I know they'll be more forgiving, but I wanted to maybe get a little better turf interaction and such than I do now.

If the offset is less than the 0211 in the 0311P, I think I'll be okay. If it's roughly the same, I think the T is maybe more of the way I'm leaning. I just can't seem to find the answer to this.

I would get the combo if you're fine with the T's lack of offset, maybe just the 9-Pw, just let us know how it goes. Looking for those Gen 2 Irons, price is really good.

Your 0211 irons offset is as follows: 4 iron = .235", 5 iron = .195", 6 iron = .165", 7 iron = .130", 8 iron = .095", 9 iron = .070", PW = .050

Gen 2 0311P offsets as follows: 4 iron = .22", 5 iron = .19", 6 iron = .16", 7 iron = .13", 8 iron = .10", 9 iron = .075", PW = .05"

Gen 2 0311T offsets as follows: 4 iron = .130", 5 iron = .110", 6 iron = .090", 7 iron = .073", 8 iron = .055", 9 iron = .040", PW = .025"

The offset in the 0311P is less than the offset in your 0211's (except for the 8 and 9 iron), however, the difference is so small I doubt you would notice with the naked eye. The 0311T's have quite a bit less offset and if this is the one deciding factor for you, then the T's would be the route to go. Note that the T's also are 1 degree weaker than the P's and your 0211's. If you bent the T's one degree strong to match your current lofts, that would also reduce the offset even further.

It might be worth getting fit for irons to see if you could more effectively help your left miss with maybe a flatter lie on the irons or possibly a shorter shaft, but if you are hell bent on the least amount of offset then the T's are what provide that.

What he said.. That’s for sure. I am glad I went all P’s. Have not been the greatest iron player, but made me look like one yesterday! Haha.

Thanks for all the info! That's awesome.

The offset isn't a huge deal to me since I hit my long irons in the 0211's very well, even with the offset. It's probably more about a smaller sole for better and cleaner turf interaction. I just wasn't sure if more offset would still be good, or of less would be better in the T.
