I qualified for the Mid Am 2 weeks ago, I will see if I can't sneak a few pics while I am there.

 

As for myself, still in love with the Paradym TD driver, always vokey wedges and Phantom X5. I put a set of Blueprint S irons and a GT2 15* in the bag after 1 range session and a practice round the day before the qualifier...because what could possibly go wrong lol

I played in it for the last two years. My main takeaway was there are tons of Ventus shafts. Also saw more Circle T's than I thought I would.

Im sorry guys I failed! Thought there would be more opportunities but to be honest everything just moves kind of fast between practice and playing and unfortunately, I was not swinging it well and was having to put more time into that lol.

 

But I can report from just some general observations, hanging out with other friends playing in it and talking with the volunteer who actually walks around and tracks players club data. Titleist and Taylormade seem king of the irons and woods to no surprise. 

 

I am good friends with Evan who won, he is Titleist thru the bag except for the putter. CB irons w/DG T.I. shafts, Graphite Design UB in the woods, armlock putter.

 

S. Harvey is a Titleist man

 

Hagestad with Taylormade irons and a couple broomstick Scotty Circle T's

 

Per the data collector, you would be surprised there's actually a decent amount of old equipment in play. He said he had come across some R1's and rocketballz woods, buddy I played practice rounds with was still using the OG M1 driver.

 

Not sure if I should be surprised by this or not, but you were likely in the minority if you didn't have some sort of Flight Scope or Trackman with you on the range.

I am no where the player you are i am a low to mid 80's player if i could play more and get my swing back to where it was 5 yearas ago i could be in the high 70's. I still play old stuff. My 14 year old also plays some irons that are as old as he is.

I volunteered at the mid am this year as a walking scorer. My general impressions were as follows.

• Irons were a lot of Srixon, Titleist t100/150, ping i230 and blueprint, and a few Mizuno in there (if they played blades mostly)
• Woods were a totally mixed bag but lots of Ventus (nearly every person had at least one tbh). If I had to guess I would put Callaway and Titleist at the top here.
• Mallet putters of every flavor (cameron, Lab, betti, taylormade, odyssey) but very few blades
• 2 fairway woods was the norm, and basically no hybrids anywhere to be found
• wedges were basically vokey and then everyone else tied for distant 2nd

how many of the guys have a deal with a company, whether it be clothes, clubs, balls, etc?

Probably none right? The mid-am doesn't have any college kids in it. Now, they may randomly get discounts or free stuff from a rep who is a buddy or whatever, but I would think that only people who get deals as ams are college kids who can take part in NIL right?

Good to know. I know people who work in the industry sometimes get stuff but usually in the form of PUD or sales incentives. And I assume high level ams who play in diff tour events get hooked up by the trailer guys.

It makes sense for some of these guys to get free clubs.  I bet their buddies at the courses they play pay attention to what they are playing a buy accordingly.  Give one guy a free set every year knowing that it will lead to 20 or more sets being bought at full price.  

 

Saying that, I love these mid am WITB talk because there is a good chance you'll see some oldies but goodies

Putter rotation - The biomech putter or the OG Cobra that he won everything with when he let it ride under the armpit.... It is now cut to 39" with electrical tape for a grip

This has been a great thread to read! Keep 'em coming guys! I don't know any Mid Am's but do have a mini tour buddy with access to whatever he wants from Ping but plays older irons (i210 long irons and iblade short) and the G425 driver as he hasn't liked any of the new stuff since. Pretty sure he's still in the G400 fairways too. Another D1 college player I know plays TCB 21's and a Paradym TD still. Unless they're being forced to play it, I think these guys play what works until it breaks!

I am NOT at the level of these guys but I was on the good side of scratch for a few years, played on some All-Navy teams, won a bunch of Am Tour events.  I never qualified for a USGA event but I did qualify for a few state ams, publinks, and mid-ams.  I paid for every piece of equipment, a lot of lightly used, and had a blast out-kicking my coverage with my short loopy swing.  I was in the Hampton Roads VA area at the time.

 

When I played my best 2013-2015 I was mostly slinging an SLDR driver, RBZ Tour 3w, RBZ 2 & 3 hybs, 2013 Anser irons, and whatever Vokeys were new then.  Best ones to me were the SM4 TVDs, my first M grinds.  I've stuck with Ping irons and Vokeys, and I still have my Select Newport 2.5.  

 

A decade and three more kids later I'm happy when I break 80 on a good course, and I like having some dope head covers.  This is a cool thread, love to see more.
