Former WWE Champion loves this game

I've been golfing since I was 29 (now 50) but also a wrestling fan since I was 13 so I watched a lot of Rick Sheils and old school WWF videos on Youtube.  Then one day, this came up on my recommend feed.  Apologies if this was posted earlier.

Cool to see.  I was never a huge Booker T fan...never disliked him either.  His WCW series with Benoit was great and I loved his supermarket brawl with Austin.  It's a shame WWE didn't use him better at the start of his WWE run  (don't get me started on how terrible they botched the Invasion angle).  He should have gone over Triple H at Wrestlemania 19. 

 

 

This is one of those weird topics I always wondered about (wrestlers and golf).  Considering the road schedules guys have  (and especially in the past when they were on the road almost every day), it seems unlikely many would have had time to get a round of golf in while in a city.  For that reason, I wonder how many ever played the game with any regularity. 

 

Some wrestlers sometimes say they like long hair because it accentuates movement in the ring (Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Triple H among those who have said this).  I have wondered if it ever gets in the way of a golf swing.  Obviously Kyle Berkshire dispels this notion.  Ona  side note,  I never realized how big Booker T's hands look until I saw this video  (his hand with the glove on it really shows this).

The video (in 3 parts) on YT of  Booker T trying to get the Undertaker to do a spinarooni is great (it also includes the Rock, Triple H, Goldust, and Vince McMahon doing their versions).  If you search  Undertaker spinarooni it will come up.  There is also a very heavily cut 9 minute version of the video.  It was recorded after a Raw taping.

 

 

To the OP...it is also cool he is getting his kids involved in the game. I frequently tell kids  (my own, kids in the youth group at church where I volunteer, etc) that it's wise to invest time in activities like music, golf, and bowling.  You can do them your entire life and don't have to be good at them to enjoy them.

to be honest Booker isn't the only one who plays as the Miz is quite fond of the game and plays to a good enough level. Booker was a terrific wrestler and 5 time world champion until he was made a mockery by Triple H. But all in all most wrestlers like the occasional round or two. ^_^

How impressive is it to be a 5x champion when some executives are deciding that for you and writing it into the script?! 😂

Just like any other show it's entertainment. But for him it's what he's know for and was part of his "gimmick" too, that's why I mentioned it.

It’s all good Matt. I wasn’t putting him or you down. Those guys are most definitely true athletes and performers. But still get a rye smile when they talk about being “champion”. All part of the gig I know.

For sure, there are guys with way more titles but it was always fun hearing the crowd chanting "5 time"(x5) when he would say is as well. And yeah kinda silly at times but don't forget he was also a King too 🤣

Totally agree.  It takes tons of strength, skill, and speed, and charisma in order to survive in that business.  People say wrestling is fake.  I disagree.  Wrestling isn't fake, but it's certainly fixed.

Wrestling isn't what I would call fake, it's scripted.  I have friend who went to their school down in Florida and was coming up through their system until he screwed up his back.  Matches are rehearsed ahead of time BUT during airtime, they can improvise a bit.  The guys/gals talk to each other during the entire match giving each other prompts and ques.  The injuries they suffer are usually very real.  Also, PED use has been cut down dramatically ever since the whole Chris Benoit tragedy.

Yeah.  Fixed is the same as scripted.  The ending is premeditated.  I totally agree that the bumps that the wrestlers take are real.  I still cringe when Brock Lesnar landed on his neck doing a shooting star on Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania 19.
