Masters Ticket Scalpers

I was able to get in today in the 2nd wave in.  Driving over from Atlanta we decided to arrive at 7 am and wait around.  Ended up parking at the publix and saw people driving in and followed.  I must have missed the notification due to bad reception for the 8am opening.  Glad to have been able to get in for the time I had.  Was able to do merchandise / founders circle / walk back 9.  Did not think that would be possible based on forecast.

Right, this year is different because the lottery winners are getting a refund unlike in 2022, they did not get a refund. Refund is for the Masters lottery winners or Stub Hub notes its sellers need to contact the place they purchased tickets from for a refund. Refund to me does not come into play. Its the word cancelled/postponed that is referenced under Stub Hubs Buyer guarantee where the SH buyer can get a refund or credit if the event is cancelled. Glad you posted that note from 2022. I didn't know what the Masters sent in 2022 but the only word they really used to describe the situation is " suspended".  In this year's note on the Masters website the only verbiage they use is "due to the inclement weather we will not reopen to our patrons on Monday."                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              With Stub hub using the word "Cancelled" in their Buyers Guarantee heading,   I'm not sure how this is going to be viewed. 1. They give a full refund to the buyers.  2. They consider the course being open for 3.5 hours as an event and no refund.  3. They give a partial refund. My guess is it would be all or none                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            This is why I was wondering if anyone had bought off Stub Hub in 2022 for Tuesday and what did SH do for them at that time. The right thing to do for SH would be to give the Monday buyers their money back especially when the Masters this year chose to do so.

I bought Tuesday off stubhub in 2022, no refund!

How do you mean? From the Stubhub house? I did it last year, was very simple. The longer you wait today to buy, the cheaper it will be.

And if a ticket is not valid, can I get a new one as an exchange at StubHub house? Because somebody uses 2 entries?

I think the biggest story regarding the 3rd party market is the theory that ANGC is purchasing the badges to:

1. Find out what badge holders and/or lottery winners are violating the no sale agreement and canceling their tickets

2. Getting a refund on the canceled badges from the 3rd party guarantee.

3. Rinse and repeat

In turn this has drove up the prices via reduced supply, which I can’t reconcile due to recent economic news, no Tiger, no other golf driver which would indicate a ton more demand.

100%. Not sure if anyone else noticing, but pretty much every listing I have seen on Stubhub has been paper. Badge holders been scared off?

IMHO, those theories are about as credible as the World Wide News back in the day.

Just left for the day and I had a few thoughts for anyone that cares:

1) Golf course looks fantastic. As good condition as I’ve seen. Azaleas are blooming. There is noticeable loss of foliage on most all holes but it feels nice, they’ve done a great job of eliminating any sign of damage anywhere and I like being able to see through the tree lines. Course is ready, but with the rain, scores will be low low early.

2) The patrons are getting out of hand. The merchandise line has become a madhouse with 2hr waits. I fear social media will be the death of us. It no longer feels like the pleasant, respectful patrons that the masters was known for. 5 years ago, there were never lines out the door and people didn’t fight over gnomes or have . It’s now become more non-golfers than not. Overheard 2 young girls “We got here at 5am and just got out (it was 10:20) we got everything on our list.” They proceeded to leave. I get that’s part of the allure but for us golfers, I’m afraid the draw has become too widespread to ever get back to that purity it used to have. (The wives now want to go as much as the husbands just to shop)

3) Ticket prices have reached ungodly numbers and I fear they are there to stay. Asked a guy in wash rd as I was leaving what they went for. Said he was out by 9am with the cheapest being 1800. If these people are paying it, they’ll continue to rise.

4) Are they slowly converting to more corporate offerings? With the map and flag and berckmans we are seeing more and more offerings every year. No doubt this has to be offset with taking away some of the lottery numbers. And to be honest, with the way the patrons are acting now, I’d want to upscale it as well. The tourney crowd and the practice crowd are night and day.

They could fix the merchandise craze by offering an online shop.

Disagree - ANGC could limit quantities and who has access to cut the craziness during the practice rounds.

For $7,500 I'd rather watch on my couch with a full fridge and my TV splitting the "Featured Pairing", "Leaders" and "Amen Corner".

I think for $500 I'd prefer the above.

My old man would tell the story of even recently (1990s lol) being able to just drive down day of and get in for 20$ or whatever face value was at the will call. Practice rounds weren’t even sought after

i love this game and sharing it, but “growing the game” does have downsides

Online shop would kill merch sales.  Why would anyone buy what everyone can have?

I think it’s somewhere in the middle. I won tickets via the lottery during the Covid years. Covid year was in the fall with no fans. The following spring they were limiting numbers and my tickets were not selected, but instead was told they would be valid for the same day the following year.

I had access to an online store the year it was held in the fall. There was an individual access code sent out. You had to follow a link, enter your login information and then enter your access code. People still purchased a lot of stuff and things were still purchased for other people but knowing we would be there in person later meant it wasn’t the last opportunity.

If the club believed merchandise was really an issue there are endless ways to solve whatever problem they think they have. Even going as far as selling no merch could easily be done.

The Masters today reminds me a bit of the recent Taylor Swift tour. Yes, you have diehard fans that have always loved her music and wanted to go. But then you had a massive number of people that felt the need to try and get tickets  and attend because it became this worldwide sensation. With that came a lot of casual fans that didn’t want to miss out. It also brought a lot of people that saw the opportunity to make money by selling tickets.

My buddies and I all want to go to the masters. Some of us have been and the rest are still waiting. But funny enough, all of our wives now think they want to go too! Only 1 or 2 are golf fans, the rest just know it’s suppose to be a big deal and it’s exclusive (maybe limited or expensive is the better word) and they now want to attend.

A broker on Washington Road told me that the price spike has brokers scared of 4-day badge holders reneging on deals and that they won't be able to fill orders. In turn, they have been buying single days to ensure that they can fulfill them. By looking at Thursday now, I think he is absolutely correct.

Went yesterday and agree 100% with #1 - #3 above.  #4 I don't know enough to opine.  To add a tidbit:  Was having something to drink, was about 80% done and a guy came up to me and asked if he could have my cup.  Wtf?!?!?   Going Sunday and as stated in #4 above I'm hoping the tourney crowd and practice crowd ARE night and day.  Never saw it in previous years like I saw it yesterday.

I disagree that this was just a this-year thing. Two years ago there were hour long lines almost immediately after opening, same with 3 years ago. It is what it is - people are going to want merch and they aren't going to wait until the end of the day to do it. And if you are going to be there for a couple days and don't mind the wait on one of those days - I'm not going to tell you different. Its your time/money - do what you want.

And as much as I liked last year's, this year's gnome stinks lol, not worth it.

But having spent time with a member a couple years ago I'll just say that the buying tickets thing sounds like crazy conspiracy level stuff.

Honestly people have been trash diving for those cups as long as they've been around - I saw it at least a handful of times on Monday. But dont get me wrong - I think its weird and completely nasty.

If referring to my post I never said it was a one-year thing.  I said I never seen it to the extent I saw it yesterday.

Also (although both actions are "garbage" no pun intended) there's a difference between trash diving and asking someone
