Ive stopped using my speed stick and use driver based on Dr Kwon drills.

The step drills are helping my swing speed ten fold.

Anyone doing the blue stick method from par4success? 

 

I transitioned to it and am not sure it's the right protocol for me. I've gotten a touch slower. 

 

Another thing to note for me...the superspeed folks say to do your speed work several hours after working out. I did it almost directly after my workouts for the first 4-6 weeks and then on non-workout days for a few more weeks. I personally like the after workout training better. I'm already loose from the workout whereas I have to get loose on non-workout days. I've been more sore doing training on non-workout days than when I was doing it on workout days.

I think today swung me full tilt to your driver only model for speed gains. 

 

Didn't do any speed stick work for the last 2 weeks after coming to the conclusion that they were making my swing regress. My decision was to do speed work on the range, with driver, only. Did that today.

 

Swinging a driver, fast, while observing ballflight, really links up speed and swing quality.

yeah I think its likely this is the way to go. Its not practical for me to hit always hit a ball in the winter but it makes sense to me.

 

Just to summarise what Ive done so far, driver only for three months (mostly without a ball, just speed). Gained a fair bit of (potential) speed, felt like I had pretty much topped out so took the weights out of my quad two weeks ago and see if I can get a bit quicker again (just to satisfy my curiosity really)

 

the 'weights out' is effectively overspeed training, so I'll have a great basis for comparison when I put them back in and see if Im actually above where I was before I did overspeed.

 

My bet would be that if I am quicker, it will be marginal, but we'll see. 

 

My  main problem with 'overspeed' (swinging something light quicker than you would a driver) , is that people dive straight in with these 'systems', see their speed go up and conclude they work.. having never even tried to increase their driver speed just with a driver. Thats no basis for comparison at all.

 

Ignoring technique, as these systems seem to expound, is also I think a poor idea for the average amateur.

I agree with that last sentence fully. 

 

Will you get faster? 100% yes. Will that increase on-course swing speed? 100% yes. BUT will you hit it better - I think 100% no. You may even hitnit worse.

1. Spine angle is all over the place

2. Hand path gets in to out - may only be an issue for faders

3. Sequence with a club is off.

done about 10 sessions with the weights out quad.. Plateauxed very quickly, havent gained any speed at all with my actual driver.

 

In summary.. my experience doesnt provide any evidence in favour of overspeed. And I completely agree your technique will likely go to hell trying it.
