Christmas movies, any family traditions?

We usually watch A Christmas Story, Elf, and all of the Lord of the Rings movies.

 

How about you and yours?  Any must see movies this time of year?

 A Christmas Story all day Christmas day. Doesn't get any better imo.

 

Watched Christmas Vacation 3 or 4 times already this year, always funny.

 

All of the old ones with Rudolph, Frosty, etc.

Christmas Vacation, Elf, Die Hard are a few of the greats I need to watch sometime in the holiday season.

Been a strange year for Christmas movies.  Haven’t seen Elf or Christmas with the Kranks yet.  Being beaten to death with Home Alone and Christmas Vacation (which I love).  Can’t watch Charlie Brown anymore, since Apple TV co-opted the rights.  Did see Miracle on 34th Street, but seriously, no Dickens’s A Christmas Carol??? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Santa Claus is Coming to Town, a classis I watched with my Dad as a kid and continue to watch now with mine.

Empty nester, here.  Wife's usually busy baking or wrapping.

Christmas Vacation by myself but only once and all the way through.

Every other year we'll watch White Christmas together and I cherish the time doing so.  Great movie, IMO.

Someone mentioned Christmas with the Cranks.  Not seen it in a few years but will if available.  Another good one.

 

Would you believe I've NEVER watched A Christmas Story?  And I believe it's based in South Bend, Indiana?

I have an 8 month old so the movies are changing a bit...we have watched the Santa clause with him and Home Alone 1 and 2 but neither really worked for him. Will try some cartoon Xmas movies with one of our streaming services. But as for me...it will be watching Christmas Vacation a few times then Christmas Eve at 7 pm when 24 hours of A Christmas Story comes on I will keep the tv on that thru a lot of xmas eve and day. 

 

I haven't watched yet, but heard there is a sequel to A Christmas Story called A Christmas Story Christmas on HBO Max with a lot of the original characters...I will eventually get around to watching it but has anyone seen it? Decent?

Always watch Christmas Vacation with the Mrs on black Friday after putting up decorations, then we usually have a bunch of friends over and watch it again and do a little gift exchange and have some apetizers.  We will also have a "stay at home date night" and watch White Christmas.

 

For whatever reason me and the wifey always end up watching all the Harry Potters this time of year as well, not sure if they're a Christmas movie, but they tend to have that feeling sometimes.

Christmas movies are a big part of holiday traditions for many families. Growing up, we had this fun ritual where we'd all gather in the living room on Christmas Eve, armed with hot cocoa and cookies, ready for a movie marathon.

One year, we decided to watch some lesser-known Christmas flicks. It was tricky finding them at first, but then we discovered the magic of streaming services. Did you know Hulu available in canada opened up a whole new world of holiday films for us? It was like finding a treasure trove of festive gems!

Same here.

 

But we also have a good inventory of classics from all the "A Christmas Carol" movies (except the silly musical with Albert Finney, but definitely including Michael Caine and the Muppets, lol) to other B&W standards from the old days.  And just some old TV shows and kid's classics - we are holiday junkies.

 

Guilty pleasure - over the past many, many years there are about 4-6 movies out of few hundred that aired on The Hallmark Channel that were actually decent and those get watched as well.  Otherwise the new ones are on as "noise" mostly and we sit around and complain about them and taunt the actors but hey, they hooked us!

A lady I used to work with would start in early November and watch a large number of movies she had gathered, but her and her husband always had one disagreement:  is Lethal Weapon a Christmas movie or not?

Kids around here starting school so summer feels like it’s over 😞 

It will be Halloween 🎃 before we know what hit us… So fine, I’ll bite on Christmas movies now. Why not 🤷🏼‍♂️

Whenever I see anything about Grumpy Old Men, I don't think Christmas I think about the following:

 

"This is the year I catch Catfish Hunter!"

"You couldn't catch crabs from a $10 hooker!"
