Matrix Ozik TP6HD-Anyone still playing?

Recommended Posts

I had the TP6HD over a decade ago.  It was in the bag for 5 months if I remember correctly.  I can tell you that I didn't even pay close to the 1000 retail tag.  I could not for the life of me turn the ball over with it and it was 15-20 yards shorter than the other shafts I had in my arsenal back in the day.  As a result I sold it.  I did like the way it felt though.

Anyone still playing the “1000 dollar shaft”

I picked up this shaft last year for 50 bucks on a whim and played it most of the year.  I must say this has a great smooth feel with a nice mid launch.  Wondering if anyone is still gaming one over the new tech out there.

The $1000 version was a TP6HDe not the one pictured.

My guess is you have some Taylormade made-for version. Matrix was pretty famous for that quite often back in the old days. Prob not a bad shaft, but not really close to the real-deal thing. Sorry.

This is 100% a "real deal" Matrix shaft.  The TPHD just came out before the TPHDe shafts.  These were still very expensive in the day.  This one just has the tour issue TM graphics.

I don't think so.

I'm not as familiar with this shaft as with xcons, white ties, etc. but the initials at the beginning, in this case TM, were IIRC evidence of "made-for" for that particular manufacturer, in this case Taylormade.

The point of this thread was to see if anyone was still playing this shaft with good results.  It was not meant to question the authenticity of the shaft I have.  The shaft is 100% the real deal (has the full length zylon seen in the butt end of the shaft)  Taylormade painted shafts made by Fujikura, Matrix, UST, Oban, and many others.  All of these were legitimate shifts with a custom paint scheme.

Yes, I still have a TP6HDe

You asked if anyone was playing the $1000 shaft you thought you bought for $50 but unfortunately thats not the $1000 shaft. Sorry for the disappointment.

At the end of the day you said it has great feel and launch so who cares if its worth $10 or $1000? If it works for you then great.

The guy is completely correct in that he is playing the real deal TP6HD in TM paint.

The shaft retail was indeed $1000 when originally released. He has exactly that underneath the paint for $50.

The TP6HDe you incorrectly mentioned was the next model that originally retailed at $1200.

Sadly TM made companies do this back in the day- tour van was full of every aftermarket shaft painted like this(and white and red in the R11 days). His shaft is legit as they didn't offer TPHD OTR.

Ah it gets pretty blurred and runs deep with this sort of thing. You had to be dig deep into it to keep up around that time with TM painting a lot of real deal shafts in their own insignia at one point. You can see the not for resale on the shaft too which Matrix did a bit of. From memory that was actually etched into the shaft on the last one i had.

The "TP" models were real deal painted with TMag graphics to go along with the head.  I have a Burner TP painted Matrix HD6 that I've got laying around waiting for a project.  Don't tell the WRX OCDers🤫, but it's not going in a Burner, nor is it going in a TMag head😵

Edit- $1000 for a shaft🥴 "hell nah"

Have you any idea of the authenticity of that below please ? There’s a 10.5D head on it now but I can’t recall ever buying an 8.5D. I tried to hit this 10.5 recently but I’m past it now I’m afraid. Not playing that specific shaft but something close: Ozik HD6.

It has been in the bag for 15 years now across multiple heads including my current driver (Titleist TSR3). The reason it is in the Titleist, and not some newfangled shaft, is because when I got fit at Club Champion, I told the fitter that once we narrowed down the head and shaft combo that worked best, he needed to shaft up my HD6 with the appropriate adapter and could hit it against whatever the Trackman said was the best for me.

Well, the best head was the TSR3 and the best shaft was the Ventus TR 6-S Velocore. And when we put the HD6 into the same head, I got virtually the same spin, launch angle and carry. Both shafts put me in the spec"windows" that the Trackman said was ideal for my clubhead speed. Saved myself $350.

Matrix really was ahead of the whole world way back in the day. Stupid expensive shafts but they performed. And they still perform 15 years later against the best shafts out there. Everyone's mileage will differ, but the HD6 is a perfect fit for my swing (I guess the Ventus is too, so if my HD6 ever breaks, I know what to get)

Might want to rethink the TR blue? you were fit into as Fuji has had some quality control issues with them breaking over the last couple years.  Luckily none of my Ventus/TR shafts failed.  With that being said, they are second to none performance wise, IMO.
