Luke List celebration

You have experience...winning on tour? 1.5 million dollars, 2 years of status, invite to the masters? And he didn't "run" off the final green, he literally walked less than 10ft from the putting surface and then went to shake Will's hand. Hyperbole doesn't have to be a part of your outrage.

I haven't won on tour so I guess you're right.  I'll withdraw my opinion.

I have my experience but I also don’t think I’ve ever seen it on TV before either. I’m sure it has happened but I don’t recall someone running off the final green of a tournament like that before.

Surely you remember the 1999 Ryder Cup?

Let's face it, Luke List has nothing on this inconsolable chop --- leaves his playing partner, playing partner's caddie, all the "patrons" waiting for the acknowledgment of their efforts, their efforts (okay it's called paying tribute at Augusta) in bringing him home, poor Joe Ford (the forgotten chairman) aging rapidly in Butler Cabin --- all of them left hanging while he has a personal pity party breakdown in the middle of the 18th green just because his coach died, then sobs on and on while his caddie tries to hug him to his senses.  Worst breach of etiquette, lack of respect ever.  Wait, there are exceptions for emotions? We want Tour pros (yep they are actually real people) to have room for some emotions? Not be robots?

Now I wish List had kept his hat on, then we'd have something to talk about - at least Crenshaw had the good sense to let it fall off his head.

One has nothing to do with the other.  Crenshaw was not celebrating with his wife and kids.

And the first thing Censhaw did was walk over and shake Brian Henninger's hand.  Go back and watch the video.

Get outta here, lol!

It is exactly as I described it (but even though I've watched it a few dozen times in my life you "made me look", haha).  Brian and the entire grit eating world had to wait while the laws of etiquette (according to you) ceased to exist on the stove that was the 18th green at Augusta - inexcusable!

So Crenshaw walked off the green, celebrated with his family, and then had to walk back to shake Henninger's hand?

The way I saw it is Crenshaw tapped in, bent over for a couple seconds, and then walked over to shake Henninger's hand before he picked up his putter or his hat.

We just disagree which is fine.

He's got his opinion on the issue and I have mine.  I'm obviously a lot more of a traditionalist than he is but it's great that two people with varying opinions can enjoy the same game.

It is a little strange that he calls Crenshaw's actions exactly what I said List did but I guess we just saw things differently.

Well ... just watched it on YouTube. Crenshaw drops down, gets a little hug from his caddie, then immediately goes and shakes hands with Henninger, who was right there, waiting.

That is probably the most emotional finish in the history of golf and Crenshaw got it right in my opinion.  That's class and in my book it counts.

Congratulations to the guy on winning the Farmers Insurance in a play off, but I thought that it was really poor form celebrating with his family off the green before he'd shaken hands with Zalatoris.

I agree, there is absolutely no place in the game of golf for this. There is a reason for etiquette and List clearly broke the rules. I know that the game of golf is changing and maybe for the worse. I pride myself and think of myself as, a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a homerun. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame.

Maybe I'm an old fogey but I tend to agree with the OP.

I didn't lose any sleep over it and I'm not outraged. Etiquette isn't that important and the standards change over time. It just seems like the traditional thing to do has always been to finish the round on the course before bringing your family over to celebrate. Finishing the round has always included handshakes between the competitors and caddies.

There was another thing I noticed at the end of regulation, but I can't remember the player. Maybe it was Jason Day? After he'd finished up he removed his hat and was shaking everyone's hand, but the other two players hadn't even putted out. That struck me as odd. But again, I swear, no outrage.

On the other hand I had absolutely no problem with List putting out in the playoff before Will attempted his putt. It would have been silly to mark a putt inside a foot under any circumstances.

I'd like to see a guy not remove his hat when shaking hands after a round and see the busybodies REALLY explode.

In this thread it seems to be the other way around.  Those who seem to be the most upset are those who don't like what the OP said.

I disagree. The OP was so ticked off he decided to create a thread on it. That takes a special level of ranting dedication.

I can't believe you are still on about this and still missing the point and making up what happened - it's on video for heaven's sake.  Yes he bent over and then in a classic heart tugging moment nobody who actually saw it live or actually watched any video would ever forget, leaned into Carl Jackson sobbing for what was a lot more than a couple of seconds, quite awhile actually before he ever got around to Henninger, who I'm sure didn't care one bit.  I guess in addition to his playing partner, the patrons, the Chairman, his wife and everyone else, he took time for his own emotions at the time, yep, just like Luke List did (for 16 whole seconds) because his wife and wonderful family were just a few paces away from him.  Etiquette is etiquette, respect is respect in your world . . . OR does it vary by context, circumstance and the vagaries of human emotion?  Judge ye not . . . . .

Happens all the time, usually because they happen to be standing in the same general area off to the side of the green and away from the action - they weren't doing it standing over the hole getting in the guy's way.

He took his hat off so it's OK.

Been there done that.  That thread ran 12 pages before going in The Cooler.

It's one of the most epic threads ever.

I remember that one and probably posted in it. I love it when benign topics end up in the Cooler! That's when you know people have gone completely off the rails.

I do too.  I love it when people take something on the internet so personally and go over the top to prove someone wrong.  I drop my two cents in and all of the sudden I've never won a tour event so I don't know anything about it.

It's like my Friday skins group.  We can choose sides and argue about anything but we're pretty good about not taking any cheap shots.  That's when it gets personal.
