Albatross and Hole Out Eagle in The Same Round

Not one to share personal feats very often but given the odds I wanted to post.

I was playing Crystal Falls in Austin with a regional skins/medal game (AustinSkins). Crystal Falls is a fairly short course, but features sloped fairways and greens common in hill country. A great opportunity to make some low (and high) numbers in equal measure.

The round was fairly uneventful until the third hole, a short par 4. I hit a professional miss to the fairway with my 4 iron, which set up a longer than usual approach to a back center pin. The green complex slopes from back left to front right, with a three tiered green and a large drop off on the right. Hitting back in to a 10 mph breeze, I pulled a flighted 7 iron to the left of the green, where it caught a bounce off the slope and rolled in the left side of the cup! A lucky break, but with the net and gross skin in hand, the rest of the day was set to be smooth sailing.

Fast forward to the 12th hole, a short par 5. I smoked a drive back in to the same 10 mph wind, leaving me 185 to a front pin. The green complex is guarded by a tree on the left of the green and water just to the right of the green. The green slopes front to back and left to right at the front where the hole was located. Your only chance to hold the green is to hit your second shot in to the stratosphere with a ton of spin. The rough is dormant, so anything right of the green will end up wet. I hit a cut moon ball 5 iron from 185 up and over the tree guarding the green. The ball landed 2 feet in front and left of the hole and gently rolled straight in the center for the second albatross of my career.

It was a pretty mediocre day otherwise and I squandered my change to shoot a crazy low one. That said, it's an amazing and melancholic feeling knowing that I pulled something so rare off, but that I'll likely never top it. Golf, right?

I'm a struggling professional taking a break from pro competition, but professionals and amateurs alike play. They've got a great and fair handicapping system, play USGA rules with a few very minor adjustments for pace and are very well organized.

Can anyone do the rough odds so I know what number to select for my lottery ticket?

I think the odds of holing out for for a skilled golfer are 1 in 1600? (old calculation from years ago but in my own experience I think that number is plausible) so..

twice in a round. mmm. 1/1600. *( 1/1600 divided by the 17 opportunities you had in that round).. call it one in 160,000 ?

this could easily be nonsense lol
