5k for a seasonal membership?? Are fn serious?  I would not pay that for a 20 year membership.

It’s not bad. You get Ahwatukee cc. Foothills and the Duke and Ahwatukee lakes which they just reopened. All the range balls at all facilities. Preferred tee times. Etc. Full year.

You do know the same guy who designed silverleaf designed the foothills.

Yeah...and he would be so disgusted to see what it has become.  Or maybe not, not sure how many designers care about the courses as the years go by.  I know some do, but some seem to come in and then are gone.

Interesting conversation - @teejaywhy Do you have any info or experience with this question (Bolded)?

I play there and teach all the jr clinics there. I’m an independent contractor. I have no stake it the course. They do have the superintendent from superstition mountain now. The practice facility is great. The putting greens are great. The course condition is coming back due to so many years of neglect. With that said you do get 4 courses to play fir $5000 and from what I understand they have sold over 100 of these memberships.

I believe Doak removes his name from Apache stronghold when it went to hell.

Foothills has always had the bones to be a really good course but the mismanagement from Ahwatukee properties has been terrible from day one, and everything has only gotten worse. For years it was “bad soil” then it was bad water then it was closing the lakes and letting tukee turn to total hell.

I remember playing foothills in the summer for $9 including hotdog and soda and felt like we overpaid, the range was literally just sand, no grass, greens were dirt/sand/ a few patches of long grasses. Winter in the past had unbelievably slow pace of play.

Let's go play it when the rates drop in May and see how it is now.....since your man @Notashank says the new sup has done good by the property.

Also, that same membership was $2400 when it was 5 functional courses. So many of the older members left when they increased dues due to the snowbirds and the duke, always trying to squeeze a dollar out of a penny and cutting corners at every step while never reinvesting in improvements to the other properties.

if improvements are being made to foothills, I can only imagine it’s to drive up the value to be able to sell it or somehow use it as leverage or money laundering for his real estate/business ventures while ducking the court judgements set forth for his butchering of The Lakes.

Just found out today that the $5000 membership was so popular they raised it to I believe $6500. Not sure in the price but it did go up.

Evidently word is out that Foothills was designed by the same team that did Silverleaf! 🤣

Considering silverleaf is one of his best courses and is $300k initiation with a 3 year waiting list. And foothills to some is his worst course and is $5000 or ballpark. Sounds like it’s priced accordingly.

I am going to test this theory out and play them both and then report back!

Thought I heard once Whirlwind membership was a good deal

it was a great deal considering the quality of practice and courses.

it was $6500/year I believe, which makes the foothills deal even dumber haha

Not personally familiar with design contracts but I would assume once the conditions of the contract are fulfilled, the course is in the hands of ownership.  I think it's common to provide a guide of how to present the course (maintenance, mowing lines, etc), but again, it is up to ownership to follow.

I would guess most designers "care" about their courses and would be sad when a course deteriorates or elements are changed that diminish the architects vision, but what could they do?  It's a business and I wouldn't expect them to offer additional work without additional fees.

I had heard that Doak offered some follow-up consulting at Apache Stronghold, but it went nowhere.
