Any newer drivers more forgiving than g400 max?

G400 max was kinda the standard for forgiveness, i still game it. Anything out there an improvement? Either from a standpoint of more forgiveness, or similar forgiveness with less spin?

 

i still feel like g400 max can be a little harsh on toe strikes as far as spin getting low and it dive bombing, and it probably spins too much on center strikes, but its a great driver overall.

Interesting, i figured the callaway max models might get some love.

 

pairing the g400 with a pro orange 70tx and cranking down loft to 7.5 has been a good combo to get forgiveness and still make the ball go forward at my swing speed.

 

my miss has always been toe strikes, which makes a person think twist face might help, but ive never found tm drivers to be all that forgiving.

 

im kinda your typical higher swing speed but hit it all over the face player

Not necessarily. Those who've tried both have found the Cleveland Launcher to be about the same. I haven't tried any Ping, but my Cleveland is much better than the Taylor Made R11 and M1 I had before it.

I think Valtiel (sp?) had a graphic of the highest MOI drivers of the last few years and nothing is even close to the G400 MAX

My son played Titleist drivers since high school, the G400 Max beat out everything on the market 2 years ago. Asked him if he was going to demo the new stuff, he said why ? "I put a bad swing on this and its still 280 yds out there in the middle of the fairway".....  case closed.

From an MOI standpoint we can only hope to meet the G400 MAX as I don't think any manufacturer is willing to get any closer to the legal limit, and if they do it won't be a big enough change to warrant the risk IMO. 

What CAN be improved on however is the forgiveness for the individual and their tendencies. The G400 MAX already has a sweet spot that is 2mm toe side of center, which would be considered a bit fade biased. This could be increased via moving weight around, but center strikes will end up fading/spinning more. 

The G425 MAX would give you this toe side adjustability while having similar MOI (plus moving the weight toe side will increase MOI slightly as well). This could make that driver more forgiving for YOU and your particular miss, which is the only frontier left if we're concerned with hell/toe curvature.

As far as MOI, PXG XF Gen2 squeaked past G400 Max in the best known MOI chart by another forum, but no update since 2019:

They were about 300 g-cm² short of the 5900 +/-100 g-cm² max allowed.  Measuring devices have uncertainty percentages, so there's a tolerance.

 

That's one thing.  Ball speed retention on hits off center - COR/CT at different strike distances away from center - is another...   But we don't have charts for that to compare models.

Oh come on you mean to tell me that as good as the g400 is that PING g410 and g425 are not as forgiving. When people still think the g400 is the most forgiving driver to date means they actually found the best shaft combo for their swing as you can take any new brand of driver and get a shaft perfectly matched with the head and WOW! they now have the most forgiving driver that they have ever hit fit for their swing.  

 

I will say that for as old as the g400 is getting they have a big following when it comes to people sticking with a driver as there is no doubt PING makes some very forgiving drivers as the next g525 will be the most forgiving driver ever made by PING.

That's Ping's highest MOI ever, not everybody's. Current comparison charts don't seem to be available. As of 2019 PXG 0811 at 9544 beat the G410 Plus at 5316.

PXG Gen 2 0811 XF.  VERY forgiving and sounds/feels better than the MAX.  This one didn't get enough love and deserves to be in the G400 Max conversation for sure.
