Not exactly what the OP had in mind here, but this is an absolutely wonderful (low quality video, BTW) performance of Edgar Cruz arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody (for classical guitar). This has been on YouTube for 12-15 years. And if you don't care to listen to the entire piece, the last bar of the performance listening to.

By the standards of people who make a comfortable living playing classical guitar, this is good playing but would not raise an eyebrow among that crowd. To pick some current players this would be folks like Scott Tennant, Marcin Dylla, Jason Vieaux, Xuefei Yang, Andrew York, etc. 

 

But this guy has a real job. He was once on a animation team that won an academy award. By those standards this is astounding. And I will demonstrate (to my own embarrassment). I played 2 years of classical guitar in the 1980's and after retiring took it up again in 2017. Since then I have practiced diligently an average of 2 hours a day (some days more - this is an honest average with very few days off). I spent about 6 months working on this piece and gave up because it was just too far beyond my current (or foreseeable) skill level. This is the best that I could do with (roughly) the same arrangement. You will notice how tentative, slow, and error prone my playing is vs. what I posted. And there are pieces of music that I can play that will not make you cringe. This is not one of those. This was recorded summer of 2021 (complete with Covid haircut).

ps. One additional comment. His playing technique (guitar across the right leg - not left) is like playing golf cross-handed (from the perspective of classical guitar).

This was only their second live gig together and the first time that Stephen, Graham & David Played this song live, at 3:00am, in front of 400,000-500,000 of their closest friends....

 

And so the Odyssey began....

 

 

One of the few, if not the only, MEGA-Group, who's WHOLE catalog was written to an acoustic guitar🎸 

 

Oh, and for those not familiar, this was Stephen's Love song to fellow folk singer, Judy Collins. Though their relationship was not for eternity, this song most certainly is🤙

Another Song that was written to an acoustic by the Uber talented Dolores O'Riordan, former lead vocalist & lyricist of Mega-Group, the Cranberries. 
 

She wore her heart on her sleeve while sharing her world with us through her lyrics. She was voted the Top All-Time Female vocalist in the Alternative Rock/Independent Pop category by Billboard Magazine while accumulating fourteen(14) Platinum album certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America. Regardless of genre, her hauntingly beautiful voice was second to none!!

 

Like many from her world, Dolores never took control of her demons, allowing them to get the best of her, when she was found drowned in her hotel bathroom tub while visiting England  for a recording project. He death was ruled accidental, due to alcohol intoxication(3.30 blood alcohol content)/drowning. She was 46yo.

Dolores O'Riordan was a lil thing, all 5'1" of her, however she had Beauty Brains & Balls in Spades!! Though not often spoken of, as she refused to discuss the subject, Dolores fought more demons than most of her peers as she fought a constant battle as an adult with both depression and a bi-polar condition, a battle that, when combined with alcohol, would cost her her life. 

 

May she find more peace in rest than she did in life~

I'm not normally into covers, however Tim Hardin's "If I were a Carpenter" is one of the most covered hits of All-Time, with not only Hardin taking it to the top of the charts, though the Four Tops(my fave version), Bob Seger, Bobby Darin and another Led Zeppelin Boy, Robert Plant all took it into the Top-5.

What was the signal chain for the acoustic guitar? I really liked the sound that you got. I do a good bit of mic'ing of my own acoustic guitar playing, but being a nylon string guy it is pretty different.

Thanks very much. Means a lot. 
 

I used an Ear Trumpet Labs Edwina mic around the twelfth fret. There’s not much processing on the tracks, but I played the same part twice and panned those two tracks left and right. The tiny variations between the two tracks are what makes it sound a bit bigger. That’s an old recording trick that’s usually used for electric guitar parts but it worked here. 
 

I’m honestly not thrilled with the mix and I’m going to remix it for the audio only version. There’s so much compression between iMovie and YouTube that the version you’re hearing is a long way off from what I hear on my monitors!
