I used an Ear Trumpet Labs Edwina mic around the twelfth fret. There’s not much processing on the tracks, but I played the same part twice and panned those two tracks left and right. The tiny variations between the two tracks are what makes it sound a bit bigger. That’s an old recording trick that’s usually used for electric guitar parts but it worked here.

I’m honestly not thrilled with the mix and I’m going to remix it for the audio only version. There’s so much compression between iMovie and YouTube that the version you’re hearing is a long way off from what I hear on my monitors!

Double Tracking - Thanks. I tend to play/record stuff on the outer edge of my limited abilities, so trying to get two good tracks is typically more than I am willing to take on. But it was quite full. I have dabbled a bit with double tracking (with delay) a single track which is probably as good as two mic's (which is what I typically do).

Just on the idea of "why not", this is my arrangement (classical guitar) of Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady". This would be the timeframe of my college days (DOB 1949). I dabbled with guitar with I was younger but did not start taking it serious until 6'ish years ago. I mostly play from the traditional classical guitar repertoire, but will occasionally do an arrangement from my younger days. This one happened to come out much better than I expected as, going in, it did not feel like something that would lay out well for solo guitar. BTW, there was roughly zero production work done here (no EQ, compression, or anything - just raw out of the mic/interface). The original is linked below this and it what I was working from.

Amazing that the Kink's Lola was banned in the U.K. because it mentioned Coca Cola. No product placent allowed. They had to quickly overdub the line and it became Cherry Cola.
