Streamsong Conditions

Anybody been recently? We have a group trip planned in April and I’m seeing some people say black is in really rough shape. 
 

can anyone confirm? What are they saying?

Yes, just went a couple weeks ago. Black fairways are awful. They have a nematode infestation.  

 

Big bare spots and black spots on all the fairways and over-sanded in an effort to help. 

 

We played lift-clean-place in the fairway. Our caddie on the #1 tee joked that he'd bring a rake along for the fairways.

 

Would just play a 2nd round on Blue or Red instead. 

 

I didn't take many pictures of black as a result but here's the best example I could find - looking back on 18 fairway from the clubhouse.

Yikes. We’re scheduled to play 6 rounds. 2 on each. 
 

Did they mention how long it takes to repair?

They are shutting down black for the summer to try and get a handle on it. My (limited) understanding is this is a very difficult problem.

Nematodes can take awhile.  They are near impossible to get rid of.  You can really only limit them and keep them under control.  They can kill short grass, like greens and fairways in no time.  Longer grass such as rough can take a higher concentration of those little guys.  Shorter grass can't handle them as they eat the roots and with the short grass blades, they kill the grass quickly.

Especially when you try to be “green” about things like they do at Streamsong using minimal chemical inputs.

It’s ironic that a golf course owned by Monsanto has an issue with insects… Good news is they have a chemical to treat them, but they’ve got to be terrified about them spreading. Those things can ruin a golf course in no time.

Streamsong is not owned by Monsanto. Mosaic built it (fertilizer company).

Fairways are on the up. Seems like the warmer weather and better growing conditions is starting to fill in the rough patches. Greens are minty!!

Yup. $300 bucks

 

Streamsong's costs (like most resort) have gotten crazy. Gone are the days of a cheap package deal with a free Scotty Cameron thrown in...

Yep, we noticed that Streamsong's pricing has gone up too.  Putting together a summer / Fall guys trip and pricing everywhere has increased.  Sea Island GA got expensive too.
Might end up with one of our old standby's...........Myrtle Beach or Orlando.

Also have a group heading down this Friday, so any help on current course conditions would be greatly appreciated - One guy in our group heard they lost the Blue and Red greens to the Nematodes - Not sure if 100% accurate or not - Thanks for any insight

I called today. They told me they’d be reducing green fees on 50% on red and 30% on black. Not good from the sounds of things.

We've experienced an outbreak of mini-ring on the greens at Streamsong Red and Blue, coupled with nematode pressure on the fairways at Streamsong Black, all of which are creating conditions that do not live up to the standards we expect.  As a result we will be aerifying and top dressing fairways at Streamsong Black beginning April 12th which could have an impact for up to three weeks on the fairway conditions.  Additionally we will be aerifying and top dressing all greens at Streamsong Red and select areas of greens at Streamsong Blue May 16th - 18th to help promote better turf health and growth during the warmest weather months.

The greens were fantastic before then and have only ever approached mediocre since. 
 

Going with an experimental turf variety has not worked out…

You can cancel up to 72hrs on everything I believe. But that’s nothing new.
