BST pinned ads

On mobile, 45 of the 50 ads on page 1 are pinned ads.

I've been a member here for years and I don't ever recall seeing this many pinned ads. I also find myself scrolling past them now. This is wiiiiiild.

Pinned ads were the beginning of the downfall of the BST.

Then the "Pay to use if you're not active on the forum" deal.

Guess I'm curious why the hate for pinned ads?  I don't sell much at all but I've pinned ads in the past so they don't get buried on page 4 or 5.  Especially since post to the ads don't bring them back up to the front like other posts do.

I don't think it's hate so much (despite the tone of this thread). For me, it's the fact that once I've reviewed a listing, I've decided whether I'm interested in anything or not. Having the ad pinned to the front then becomes a burden to me as I have to scroll past to get to any new ads which might offer something of interest. I'm never seeing the same ad for the tenth time and saying "okay, you got me. I'll buy the tour issued triple horseshoe laser etched driver with the 49" pornhub-approved XXX shaft created by Rory in his basement while communing with Arnold Palmer's ghost."

 

If no ads were pinned, new ads would stay on the front page longer. And if you haven't been to the BST in a few days, just click through to the next page if you are seriously looking for something.

Yea I get that.  I just look at the top of the pinned ads until I get to ones I've seen before and then skip down to the new un-pinned postings.  It is a hassle.  Wonder why they don't let posts move the ads back up?  I know the bumping stuff is a mess and hard to control so guess that's the answer.

I find myself immediately scrolling past all of the pinned adds myself when I'm browsing the classifieds, and I think the reasons why are because of a few things.

• They always seem overpriced.
• Most of the time, aside from the first 2-3 the rest tend to be days or weeks old.
• The rule allowing brand new "members" to post as long as they pay a small fee causes me to associate pinned ads with it being more likely to be a scam.

Maybe my reasoning is way off or illogical, but it makes total sense to me 🤣.

Got your attention though...  At least I am not paying for a bunch of PGA pros to advertise for him.  All OEMS  could sell much cheaper if they weren't paying millions to the pros.  Their endorsement make not a squat of difference to me.

It’s not just the pinned stuff, seeing 716 AP2’s listed for $650 and MP18 SC’s for $699.  That’s a solid $200-300 above any sold eBay auction.

 

Some of the shafts being sold as well, $350 shafts being resold for $325? WOW… what a bargain you are offering there. If someone has no problem dropping $325 on a shaft they probably wouldn’t have an issue paying full price as well and having something brand new.

I'll throw in the "save the tax" phrase, where they offer a deal at MSRP. 

 

(Have local golf shops in my area that don't charge taxes).

 

Another is offering new (not limited) clothes for 80-90% the sticker price.  I always go wild in the golf stores when they offer those screaming 20% off deals on $100 shirts and pants.

Not all of the pinned ads are priced like that but I'd say 75% of them are. Some are real headscratchers like a used partial set of irons(and not consecutive clubs) being sold for over retail. And it might be just me personally but mismatched and ugly (to me) ferrules on a set of irons do not add value.

There is another contender that just got posted for most “overpriced/ out of whack pricing” of week. Now keep in mind this “excellent conditioned” pair of pants is 2-3 years old and originally retailed for $110 but can be yours for the low, low price of only $90.
