Putting Lab is not directly connected to general customer service. As @MattM97 says, go to the PLD custom page and sign up for a fitting.

For any that have done the in person fitting was there much info or did you get into SHAFTS much?

I see some with steel shafts and others with carbon shafts.  I have also heard that the off the rack PLDs come with different Carbon shafts than the ‘tour PLd customs’ you get through this program.  I remember reading it one time here on this thread and have been looking for it but can’t find where I saw it.

Custom pld graphite shaft is way stiffer than the OTR version.

@BYK did you do an in person fitting and did they have these available to test?

I tested three shafts when I was there. The steppless chrome steel, black finished steel, and the PLD graphite. Truthfully I couldn’t really tell a difference in feel. I’ve always used your traditional steel putter shaft so that is what I went with. Have putted with the off the rack PLD’s in store with the graphite shaft and they felt great but no discernible difference for me. I’m sure others are far more sensitive to it.

I did online but have had both. 
Felt better to me than steel, but then we get into the whole do these composite shafts really make a difference debate.  I’ve played LA shafts before and liked them.  Since it was no upcharge, it was a no brainer to me.

Yes, absolutely! That’s what I was thinking, if there is no up charge might as well go composite.
Thanks, I have my in-person fitting this week and hopefully they will have the composite shaft to try out.

Oh they will for sure. 
they actually are very cautious about recommending it due to how stiff it plays.  Well at least when we talked about it they were.

IMO, it's all about feel. Personally, I prefer a standard steel shaft. For me, stiff composite shafts lose all feel, but some people do like them. I got the feeling that my PLD fitter wasn't a big fan of it and I echo what @BYK said in that I think they are very cautious about recommending it.

Thank you, but is there no way to find out if they'd do a custom PLD DZB without paying for a $200 fitting?

Unless you already have done a fitting and bought a putter....no. That's the point of the program to fit a putter to you.

I had the same experience. The putter felt a little more rigid than the standard steel. Ultimately Colton let me decide but he said it isn’t something he would recommend based on numbers/data as it’s more feel/looks and personal preference.

H Neck (debating on having the h neck removed, I think it’s just epoxied in and then send the head into PING and have a double bend shaft put in)

I think this is the same setup that Rick Shiels has, complained about it because his carbon putter rusted in the UK, then has proceeded to putt the best he ever has. So I’m not sure if that makes me or less likely to use it hahaha.

Looks like this was made for a NCAA player as the serial number starts with COL instead of the normal WRX so I am guessing that means college. 

So I talked myself out of doing the custom fitting because mentally “I can’t spend that much on a putter”. So instead I have bought 4 of other people’s customs and spent the same amount.  Putter logic is a mysterious, dangerous thing.

It’s a PLD from the early days of the program. It’s carbon with a PVD finish on it that makes it look like a BeCu.

I have not really been able to get a hold of a human at PING who will tell me what they will and won’t do to a PLD that you yourself didn’t purchase through the program.  I understand it’s a service that they are extending to people who paid a healthy sum. All that being said I was thinking I would have my local club builder and send the head in for a reshaft through PINGs standard club repair service. Which I think would be like $60.

All depends on the level of customization you have done. Mine was very quick (3 weeks) because I had no stamping or personalization done to the putter.

I spoke too soon. Alex just sent me some progress photos and told me it was going to be shipped next week. Ordered on March 18th.

Yes Rick shiels first putter rusted and he complained about it. But he also admitted he’d kept it in a wet putter cover. It was his own fault, but he wouldn’t actually admit that. Far easier to bag on ping and get a new putter like he did than admit the mistake.

I don't often watch his stuff but I was interested to see what he would have to say about the PLD custom process and I remember the video well.

 

The end result was really weird. He appeared to claim that Ping added his logo without him asking for it - which seems highly unlikely. He ordered a carbon steel Tyne shape - was he not talked through materials and told that carbon would rust - and in the UK wet weather, rust fast if not cared for/dried off carefully all the time? It was also quite strange to review what he liked and didn't like about the resulting putter given that the whole point of the fitting was to build him a putter to suit his preferences in every way, and he chose every element of it. If I were Ping I would have been quite p1ssed at the resulting video given he likely didn't pay for the putter either!

Rick isn’t as clued up on equipment as he makes out and he mentions he stored it in a wet headcover - that would make a mess of any putter. He also complained about the lack of freebies in the box. He got a free PLD that’s roughly £2K for the rest of us.

 

He previously had that hissy fit during a titleist fitting as well that he got ripped for. Some of his equipment reviews also don’t bear logic when you hear his summary at the end compared to the numbers. He’s become a bit too entitled for me and I stopped watching him.

Those 2 videos did it for me with Rick he's in my eyes as you guys say over there a bellend and no longer relevant in the golf gear space, I mean look where he ended up. 

 

But back to PLD talk starting season 2 with mine soon, if mother nature cooperates.
