Ping PLD Custom Program

My Anser 4K ended up being like a .390 I ordered a .370 BGT and the tip was too small, luckily my buddy had tips.

Definitely do and probably easier to send back to Ping honestly if you have something extra.

Confirmed with Alex it's .390 parallel.  Way more reasonable to just send back to Ping.  Man their customer service is just so good.

I know it's a lot of money for a custom PLD, but man every time I have to talk to Alex about something I need or a question I have, I always walk away super satisfied.

It’s cool to have a ‘one of one’ putter and customize it, but the whole point was to get better at putting with something completely fit for me, which I believe Ping/Alex 100% deliver on.  It was such a great experience.  I put my order in a few weeks ago and will wait till final product to get everyone pics.

 

btw I have done a club champion, PXG, PGA SS (x2 with SAM device) putter fittings over the years and ya, this was way better (and it should be).  Expensive yes, but IMO I would do it again.  I did in-person and for me the only way to go would be in-person.  

I agree...I tried the virtual experience and like you, I did Golf Galaxy, PGA SS, Club Champion and a local fitter using the SAM and nothing cam e close and as Mr. Colton Tuttle articulated every metric of my fitting was something I never got from the fitters I've been with before.  When I got my putter, everything about it was Epic.  I got the Prime Tyne S-H (Corey Connors now Bubba) model. I would like to do it again but this time the in person experience for a Anser. Post the pics as soon as you can.

Will do!  Can't wait till I get it, I haven't been sent any pics yet but Alex did say they have the head milled, but waiting on the engravings.  

But yes the PING experience just was hands down the best, and it's great to hear that when you got your putter it was Epic.  I am quite the putter ho, and have probably had easily over 100 putters in my day (most of them short lived).  So the experience in PHX w/ Alex yes was expensive, but am hoping it saves me money in the future ha!  And it was just fun to have a tour like experience because my came is no where near tour level.  I am excited to see the final product though, and will post pics

UST makes most of their in house shafts so makes sense.

I believe UST is doing a lot of putter shafts for OEMs so maybe they want more recognition.

Is this the shaft that is for the PLD Custom Fitting program or is this the shaft that you can get for the OTR PLD putters?  Just wondering, as I am pretty sure Alex told me they are different, the ones for the custom program are a lot more rigid.  I opted for the composite shaft as when I did my fitting my putting was a lot better from 60ft out with the composite.  

Alex also made a point (atleast I had never heard before, but makes sense) that if you have a higher GIR (especially for an amateur) then you will be having a lot more long putts during the day.  It came up as I was sayin I feel like I am hitting greens but I have a lot of 3 putts and some of it is vicinity to the hole.  Ya I am on the green, but far away.  So if we can get my dispersion down and get my 2nd putts closer to the hole I can limit my 3-putts during the round.  Whereas if you don't hit a lot of greens you are chipping onto the green and probably starting your first putt a little closer than the guy with the higher GIR.  Hopefully that made sense lol, he made it sound good and made total sense to me.  Anyways, long story short, I went w/ composite and excited to try it.

I have no idea I didn't post it but UST probably make both just to different specs. Why source a shaft from another brand when they already have a relationship with UST.

The one posted is the PLD custom composite (super stiff one). The retail one says PING composite.

Initials stamped on bottom, toe side - no paint fill. Brown gator skin head cover - didn't love color at first but have really come around to it. Quality is very good

If the PLD Anser 2D was available in Satin I might opted for the custom program.  As of now (per Ping chat) the 2D is only available in the gunmetal colorway.

I'm going to assume whoever you spoke to is talking PLD Retail. Where PLD Custom is indeed custom.

Yeah, definitely. Assume they were talking about the Anser 2D "PLD Plus" model. There's no bounds to the finishes through the PLD custom program, but it's also $$$. Had to have been retail. @kamaaina1

ya that was not the PLD Custom Fitting program, got confirmation they can easily do that or any finish you want (of the ones that they offer).

Scheduled a fitting at HQ a couple of months ago when I knew I would be in Phoenix (today) on way to getaway in Sedona. Truly a first class experience. Unparalleled by any fitting I’ve had previously or could imagine again. Yes, you do sign an NDA. Yes, that means no pictures. The experience obviously involved a full scope, tour level fitting. It also included a trip to the vault, a visit inside the WRX area, and a visit to the actual milling area.
 

However, it got better. The day was made completely surreal when, during the inside portion of my fitting (on the uber flat putting track), Mr. Solheim himself walked in with another gentleman he was showing around. Not the younger Mr. Solheim - the son of the founder. Not at all nervous putting in front of that guy. 

 

I was fit into one of the new Prime Tyne S models with a plumbers neck. Dark patina finish, smooth face, and site dot alignment. Black steel shaft. 34.5 inches, 375g headweight, 3.0 loft. The difference of what Colton was able to do by putting something in my hands that was fit to my specs versus buying someone else’s custom PLD was of course miraculous. 
 

If you have the ability to do this, I would highly, highly, highly recommend it. 2 hours long and worth every second. My wife sat through the whole thing. She went in fully expecting to be bored out of her mind. She was fascinated by minute 2.

 

This company is worth its weight in gold.

I did, I have an original Prime Tyne and like the shape. For some reason the harder angles (think Anser 2 versus Anser) suit my eye.
