David Feherty

I recently watched/listened to an interview Feherty did with Barstool and the guy just did not seem like his usual self. I know he's had a very tough life, but this was honestly kind of sad to watch. I hope it was just that he wasn't feeling 100% that day. If there is a bigger issue I hope he's getting the help he needs and the people at NBC Sports are keeping a good eye on him.

If you look up "F***ed Up Dude," on Google, his name is top of the list.  He has and had so many issues, I don't even know where to start.  Insomniac, injuries to shoulders and other body parts (run over while cycling), bi-polar, clinical depression, drug addict, alcoholic and has lost a son to a drug overdose.  He's a complete mess that somehow functions well enough to be on TV.

I also think many people forget/don't appreciate how good of a player Feherty was during his prime.

• 5 European Tour wins
• 3 top 10 finishes in majors
• 1 Ryder Cup team
• Career high world ranking of 33
• 6 consecutive years finished in the world top 100

Would have done better but his putting at times was dreadful, really struggled with semi yips at times....had a wonderful swing. Remember when he got bitten by a grass snake when looking for his ball 🤣 with all what's happened to him, was a fantastic character

He seems to use some of the conditions that he is afflicted with to let him rise to the occasion when it is needed, like the other night at the HOF induction or when he is doing a live piece on a NBC telecast. But then when he is doing something like this Barstool piece which is less important, he descends into what I suspect is closer to the real Feherty these days. It is rather sad to see.

I didn't think it was sad to see.  It's just real life.  He looked bored and tired.  Knowing he sleeps as well as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, I wouldn't be surprised if he was really tired and would rather have been doing anything but that zoom call.  He's still one of my fav golf tv people.

I think he was fine but my god, who are these two buffoons interviewing him? The guy on the right side of the screen has zero business interviewing anyone, especially on camera.

For the pod in question the best interviewers have to know the subject inside and out. I got the impression they did not.  A good broadcast is always the interviewer AND the guest. If dialogue is good the guest will rise up. 
in another life I had to interview a very well known Canadian writer. My prep wasn’t up to snuff. It was a failure.

It's hard to be "on" all the time.  It's far easier to be a little subdued and calm.

[Duct Tape]

I don’t know his personal history very well, but I find him one of the best on-course announcers. He clearly knows golf very well, is often very insightful for what to expect and why a certain shot or outcome occurred, and is just the right combo of humor and caustic comments.  
 

His TV interviews are usually enjoyable. There have been one or two I didn’t like but one thing he never is, is a sycophant.  Nantz and the whole “patron” crew could learn something.

I have noticed this in the last two episodes.  For the first few, he seemed fine.

 

Either way, he is much better on that show, maybe because he doesn’t try as hard.

Looks like the Irish Seve in the first photo...

 

But I like the guy and wish him well.

 

We all have problems in life and it seems that he may have had more than most. But he seems to have handled it with grace and I wish him the strength to do so in the future...

I thought the same.  He sounds  down to me. I’d bet he prefers on course.  
 

It’s easy to spot.  he’s normally upbeat.  Just absolutely seemed disinterested as you said.

He was kinda out of it on his Sirius XM show. His therapist starting giving him some new meds and maybe they aren’t working how he would like. David has had a very tough life and I pray to God to doesn’t end it early.

Yep.  Experience  is why I said it’s easy to spot.  Wish it weren’t true. Hope it’s not.  But he seems like a soul that’s been on borrowed time for many years.  He knows too many truths by experience….that’s always a heavy thing to carry.

For any Ticket listeners around Dallas, the Musers know him personally and Gordon in particular will from time to time say something along the lines of, "We haven't heard from our friend David Feherty in a while now... certainly hope things are okay with him."  And the way he says it sounds very ominous.  Always makes me worry that things with David are worse than we've even heard about.

Of all the Barstool Golf guys, Riggs is the only one I have respect for.  Say what you will, the dude works his a** off to produce content (whether you like it or not, and I myself get bored with it), but he puts in a lot of work and a lot of travel.

 

Trent can't break 100 and has no business talking golf.

Frankie is a clown who overacts.

Lurch is perfectly name and worthless.
