Found a Ping G400 5 wood head...

Playing golf with my wife the other day, I found a broken Ping G400 5 wood that was in a water hazard.  The club looked like it had been in there a while with some surface corrosion on the face and some of the paint hd worn off, but I did not see any cracks or dents or damage other than cosmetic.  The shaft was broken at the hosel so I threw that in the trash.

 

My question is, despite being ugly, is this worth spending the money on a  shaft and trying it out, or should I just keep it as a paper weight on my desk?

As long as you kept (still have) the Ping shaft adapter from the broken shaft, I would think it would be worth a shot to try out. After all, free club. And if it works out for you then you have a great story.

Definitely worth it to put on a shaft. That could be your 5 wood for years to come.

Once won a g20 4w head on eBay for $1.49 with free shipping. Didn't think they'd actually send it, but they did. The ferrule cost more than the head. Played that thing for a couple of years. Still in a backup bag. Everytime I hit a great shot I'd think, "$1.49".

I got my hole in one with my Ping G400 5 wood last year. 225 yard par 3 I hit that thing straight and true, love my 5 wood!!

Funny seeing this thread. I went looking for and found a used G400 5 wood because I feel it was one of Ping’s best ever. Sound, feel, performance — it’s excellent. 
 

So I get it home and it has a Ping Tour driver shaft in it (driver and fairway adapters are the same for G400) and the shaft is long — club plays at 3 wood length, 43.5 inches. It’s a bomber. I’m guessing whoever owned it probably carries one fairway wood — a 5 wood set up for 3 wood distance. But it’s still easy to hit.

Just got finished running errands and hit the range.  This club works like a champ.  High ball flight, Csrry distance is about 210, tight  little fade.

 

she is kind of ugly so I am thinking of calling her Joy Behar.

Only can do that if the club is annoying as well….

The old 3w shaft in a 4 or 5w head, works every time 70 percent of the time
