releasing lag

provx

Recommended Posts

how
slicefixer, i was re-reading an old post of yours that says the only true way to release the lag is by working the butt of the club to the left. however, when i attempt this it ends up in my clubface being open at impact, and im not sure why this is.

can everyone recommend their thoughts and tips on how to properly release the lag?

after further thinking, it might be some mental error. like the difference between working the butt left, and pull the butt left.

Huh? Can you explain your thoughts on this?

Release- when you push a shopping cart, what do you push it with? If you were pushing a shopping cart and while moving, you wanted to RAM it into the wall, how would you do it?

its like instead of letting the club go around my body, i have more of an instinct to push the butt down and left, which ends up being more like a huge block and the face opens.

i really don't understand where you are going with the shopping cart reference. you would push off your feet and lunge toward the wall and then extend the arms to ram the cart.

EXACTLY!!!

Drive the pivot with the FEET, then snap the "chain" allowing the arms to extend through impact. The key is very soft arms...the old Hogan rope arms.

Strengthen your gip a bit.........bet you notice a HUGE difference.........Mr. Hogan DEFINITELY did NOT push any shopping carts.......his club released WAAAAAY left........and was PULLED their by the rotation of the core of his body...........IF your synched and rotating/pivoting correcty and the clubhead isn't squaring up you can bet that the something (more than likely grip strength or "out of synch arms" behind the body or the face is too open for the path/path is too inside for the position of the face) has the clubface too open for YOUR swing.......and/or.......your trying to MAKE the club work left.....you should ALLOW it to work left.....it should work left by being PULLED by the connection of the upper left side and the unwinding/rotation of the body AROUND.........you CAN force the club to "release" with the arms/right side/right arm and that IS an option........but, it's NOT the best option...........you might be curious to know that in 46' Mr. Hogan hit BIG fades (Snead called them slices) and, over time, these BIG fades gradually turned into fades, then a shot that looked like it would draw, but, just wouldn't.......

Great drill........get an Impact Bag and see/feel the face square up into the bag........do it in slow motion......gradually turn up the speed and give it a pop........do it over and over again until you ingrain the feeling of the upper arms being "connected" in the impact zone and being accelerated by the rotation of the core of your body.......you'll FEEL the speed being created by the unwinding/clearing of the LEFT side while at impact you'll be aware of the RIGHT side knockin' all hell from it..........you do it enough and the "butt working left" will take care of itself.........first, strengthen your grip a small amount at a time until it squares up.......IF it still won't square up then the clubhead is attacking from a bit too far inside and/or your arms are "out of synch" at at the top...........provided the PIVOT is correct the 3 most common things that create the "open face" are grip strength, path too inside for the position of the face (these two work together), and "out of synch arms"................

that was a very good post slice, i do use a weaker grip, especially the grip hand, because it feels more relaxed to me. right now in order to square the face i have to rotate my right forearm, and to me this feels like casting. if this motion is right or wrong, i don't care, but it feels wrong to me so i definitely want to quit it.

this problem has been making me really frustrated lately because i can tell the rest of my swing is getting close to what i want. i am getting a really good push off the right foot and getting the weight left, so much so i get the back foot doing the "bikers foot" a lot. it seems like im getting the body into the posistion i want at impact but not the clubface :/

Hi Provx

Well if you ar attacking the ball to far from the inside what I like and I got this from one of the the experts off this board is to keep the club face square with u r left fore arm..however

there are other drills that you can do at the range like taking u r head cover and line it up a few inches to the right of u r target line ... so yu can not swing to right field.

I fight this myself so Its not going to happen over night but I love this tip (butt low and left). To get u r arms in synch with u r body just buy one of those blue strap's that tie u r fore arms together..They are like 5 bucks at those golf stores online..I think it cost me 6 bucks for shipping so good luck..

thanks scores, that sounds like a good idea. as i was thinking about this today myself, i slowly came to the conclusion it might be a left elbow, left forearm problem. i think i am not letting my left elbow come back in to my hip to release it, as some subconscious effort to not lose it left.
