The Masters 2022

I saw the interview with Cam. He reminds me of Phil in the sense he gets on good streaks when he fires at every pin.  After the birdie on 11 he had to think a good shot at 12 gives him a great chance. Sometimes hitting first on that hole can hurt you. Plus he was still chasing.  Given the circumstance he probably wouldn't change anything just put a better swing on it.  The beauty of this major is that he will get another shot at it next year.

Mishit,

“Just a really bad swing at the wrong time. It was actually a really good number. It was a really nice 9-iron. Wasn’t even trying to go near that pin, and, yeah, just a really poor swing,” he described after the round.”

Yep, after that interview i owed Cam an apology...only a rookie would have aimed at the pin on hole #12....

Some par 3s are bogey holes.  Par is a birdie. That’s just a fact.  12 is one of those holes. Length has nothing to with it.  It’s all the optics. There’s nowhere to hit it that your brain will except asa good bailout.  You can’t see the landing over the bunker.  Long loos worse than it is , and water is laughing at you.   You have to flight something long.  Period.  It has to feel like it’s long , if you hit a floater up there , you’re toast.

Stand on that tee box ... looks longer than what it is. Not alot of green to land on. Great hole. Much better than than 17 thing at Sawgrass.

If Scotty keeps this up, he is on a Heater which may approach Nick Price circa 1993-1994.  Nick had a couple majors, a players and ten wins in an 18 month stretch.  In one 90 day period in 1994 he had 5 wins, a 4th and a 2nd.  That hot streak ended as mysteriously as it started.  That 18 month stretch made Nick’s career.

One of the 1st guys to get into the performance enhancement. Good move, made him a fortune.

One issue for this event is they keep field reporters outside the ropes so it is more difficult to get timely info at times. Dottie was primed to follow JR in the booth on the lpga coverage until her choking dogs comment at the solheim cup. Now she is left to wandering around the mens leagues trying to find something relevant to say between all the cbs boys club chatter. Not a good fit IMO.

She looked miserable out there ... always sounds miserable. Unless they stick her in a booth sometime soon ( god save us )she will be done.

One of the major factors that makes 12 so hard is the fact the green is so shallow. On many holes, a wrong club or poorly struck shot can just mean a putt from the front or back of the green for players of this calibre. But on 12, it means you're either in the water or over the back. Keeping it low into such a shallow green is no mean feat.

So the players probably have so much running through their mind, it leads to some poor execution and decision making. It's also why you generally see Tiger hitting it purposefully so far left most of the time.

Just a brilliant hole.

I don't recall seeing where his shoulders were aimed. But with his foot line aimed at the right edge of the green, if his shoulders were aimed anywhere left of that, he was using a recipe for a cut/fade.

Have to take him at his word.....He said "I  wasn't aiming any where near that pin"

He's one of my favorite players. Good to know that he didn't make a rookie  mistake.....LOL!

What is the reason for your Scottie hate haha?

You know I don't hate him.  He's just not up there with my favorites.

Even more important than unsurprising bowel activities,  I am more concerned about the fields these days not trying to chase him down.  Look at his last 5 wins.

The pursuees failed to pursue.

Look at the majority of Tiger's wins. Scottie is beginning to edge into that "why take risks when we can't beat him" stage Tiger spent most of his career in.

Yes and no.

The modern player has access to more resources with monetary stability, generally in better physical shape, has better equipment, healthcare most have an entourage or team.

Many top players have only one category of risk - injury.

That makes what he's doing even more impressive. Everything is super optimized and it's really tough to separate yourself. Off-center hits on the drivers aren't even penalized. If you look at the equipment in the 90s, you had to hit the ball dead in the middle of the face otherwise you couldn't keep it on the planet. A guy like Wyndham Clark would struggle w those drivers

Would Wyndham even been on tour in the 90s?

I know.  I played golf through the 90s. Very different game.

Just like the better players of the past  in professional golf, Scheffler has created "separation factors."  These include:

1. Dedication to a strategy

2. Practicing his strengths

3. A keen mental focus

He plays better and more consistently because he focuses on the process, not the results.

As I tell my kids, if you put the time, energy and practice into something be it work, school, sports or personal relationships the LAST thing you should be is surprised when you see results.

I think that's why Scheffler seems so chill after winning. He is anything but surprised.

Yeah but he's losing in the hair game.  Talk to spieth, channel those great 80-90s styles, mullet and mustache, yessir!
