Aligning a Single Bend Putter Shaft

I assume the shaft should go straight back right? And not back or forwards? For some reason this is feeling closed when I set it down.

The single bends  I have have some offset and feels like the shaft leans "back"

Yeah this has some offset as well. Just not sure if the shaft is supposed to go straight back from that point or “lean back” as you put it.

Try to find out if the hosel is perfectly vertical.  It might be angled slightly forward like some Scotty's.  Then the shaft needs to angled back.  In the end, it comes down to what you want to look at.

Dealing with the same issue with my EVNROLL. Shaft appears to be pointing away from the topline of the putter.  I thought your hands should be in front or at least equal to the putter.

You need to have it measured for loft and face angle.  A single or double bend shaft, will change the loft and face angle depending on exactly how that angle is installed.  There can be quite a difference in how they come from the factory, because installing a shaft with bend is not all that easy

When I replace one in one of my Camerons, I eyeball it to the old shaft and epoxy it in.  After a 24 hour cure, I take it to a shop and bend it to spec.  There is close to no way to get these installed without any adjustment before its good to go.  The last X-5 I reshafted “LOOKED” great but when I measured the loft and lie, the loft was 1 degree which is a tad strong for my taste.

Insert a straight shaft into it and measure the angle to see what you're starting with. Only YOU know if you need the single-bend angled OR straight back to give YOU the right address face angle, offset and hand position. That's the way putter shafts are installed properly. I used to custom fit the putters in my avatar and always asked the customer how much offset they wanted and if they wanted face balanced or a certain degree of toe hang and then bore the head and/or tip the shaft to give them what they wanted. You're in control.

It's all about effective loft at the point we strike the putt.  So 1* measured in a spec gauge can be quite different than the effective loft we present at impact.  A tour player like Zach Johnson plays a putter that measures between 0-1*, because of his shaft angle and how he releases it

I do understand this is an old post,.. but the 1/4" block method worked

perfectly.  Reporting this is the only reason I joined this board.

OOPS,.. I was so excited I responded to the wrong post. I had several open.
I was installing a Double Bend putter shaft. The post I read said to sit the putter face down on 1/4" block on a table top. The offset on the shaft is supposed to be 1/4". Then I put the shaft on the hosel and making sure the shaft is flat on the table. I have a piece of 1/4" ss plate and my counter tops are level. I hung the grip over the edge pf the counter top and set everything up as described.  I taped and hot glued it together for a test run and it was perfect. Grip is right back where is was. Address is just like it was.  All good. 

I'm refinishing an Odyssey #7 for my son for his birthday. Now I just need to clean, polish, replace the insert and get it all together.
