Ping G425 Max users!!! What low/low shaft using???

Hi guys!

I'd like to hear what low launch/spin shaft have found to work best for you! Love my G425 Max and I'm always trying new shafts to see what gives me the best low launch/spin and overall performance out of it.

There's been quite a lot of new releases like Smoke RDX Green, Ventus TR, Kai'li White, etc.

Are you playing counterbalanced, non counterbalanced? Lower loft? Lighter back weight?

I'd love to hear it and discuss!

Venus Black 6 Stiff. Agreed above.  Straightest shaft I have ever hit.  Low spin low launch.

I played a DI 6x at 7.5* and had to play the Ventus Black flat 9* for about same trajectory.

Started with Ping Tour 65X, now playing KBS TD Category 4 tipped an inch. Most stable setup I've played!! Head is obviously loud but some hotmelt definitely helped a ton, as well as moving cg a little forward. Ground down the back weight and have a 9 degree head on small minus, its a monster.

I had Will Peoples hot melt it, dunno how much he added but it was something like 4 grams idk really, still have the 26 gram back weight. What weight should I put in the back? I have laying around a 17 gram and two separate 9 gram weights from Golfworks, I may even have some other weights need to check.

Currently testing Ventus Blue 6S. Working through some swing changes, previously played 410LST but I'm a bit low on spin with a modified delivery. Going to loft up a bit and move to 425 Max and see if that helps.

Have you played the stock Alta CB shaft as well? As Ventus Black is not counterbalanced, how different was playing a non-CB shaft?

Have a Ventus Blue 6s  9 degree . This driver flies lower that expected . Will send it to ping for a little hot melt possibly . They will replace the weight during the process . As a little weight will be needed after weight is added via hotmelt

Is this just for the sound or to launch it a little higher with the weight adjustment?

Yes. Tried in X Flex. The Alta seemed soft and I didn't like it.  I couldn't tell the difference in the counterbalance. I've moved to the Ventus Blue TR 7 and love that shaft.

Do you think the driver head was heavy or the whole setup. Did you try a CB shaft, as it might offset the head weight considerably?

What I'm finding is the more stable the head the less areo dynamic and heavy the head can feel. CB shafts just make the club feel lighter but thats a feel thing and isn't a static weight thing . I'm a ventus guy so had no desire to go CB in the shaft. I have the Rogue st ls now and its super Ping like just lighter so I can play by ventus blue and add 8 grams of lead tape soon to be hot melt to the toe and still be at D3. I really like Ping drivers and will be curios to see the new release just hope it carbon crowned .

I haven't measure in awhile.  3 years ago 110 and 165mph ball speed on a Trackman but I'm getting old.  So its probably down a few.  I still carry driver around 250-260 yards on good strikes.

I tried a VentusBlack 7x last year and it was a bit too much albeit I was also playing with Tour AD DI 6 x last few months which I had no problem hitting. Now at Stiff Ventus Blue TR 7. LOVE THIS SHAFT.   Last year I was playing G410 LST 10.5 with Ventus Blue 6x with great success.

G425 MAX imo is one of best combos for length, accuracy and forgiveness. Mines set weight on toe and open 1.5.  I hate missing left.

It’s true that PING G425 Max head is massive, get that all the time from others especially when I bomb it. I started playing only about 7 months ago and really like this driver with the CB shaft as it likes to go straight, straighter than other drivers I tried. Haven’t experimented with other shafts much but I think it’s time as I tend to launch the stock shaft a little too high to my liking. Now I know which one to start with. Thank you.

The Alta is also a relatively lightweight shaft in addition to the counterbalance.  I don't care for the Alta shafts either.  The Ping Tour shafts are fine.  Using a Smoke Black RDX now.

Hey bro don't go down the too high rabbit hole ! I did only to find after years that some about 60% ish of tour players hit the ball high . If you can hit it high with low spin you are money !! I have recently come across the tennis pro orange not the free one or non uncharge model and I stinking love it it my 3 wood its so good I just ordered one for my hybrid so I might get the 1k orange in a heavy Ping driver in the future.

LOL thank you for the heads up - I will check for my spin numbers, too high is a problem only when it’s windy and in South Florida its almost always the case.  I can’t complain much about the distance though. You meant Tensei Pro Orange? I have the stock one in my 5 wood and I do like it. But I really like the Ventus VeloCore 8S in my 3H - low, penetrating flight which makes me want it hit it even on long par 5s 😐

Bumping an older thread because I'm exploring this right now.

I've been taking lessons and working on swing changes this year. Eventually, once I'm locked in, I'll do a driver fitting. But for now, I'm loving having a G425 Max where I can just scatter my strike all over the face and get a shockingly consistent result. I'm also loving being able to put it in a flat, delofted setting and move the weight out to the toe -- my miss is a toe-y hook and, while I'm definitely bad enough at golf that I can still hook this driver, that set-up really helps minimize the damage.

I have a GD AD VR 6X in it right now. I went with it initially because I love the feel -- lots of Graphite Design shafts suit me well -- and like that it's a tiny bit counter-balanced relative to their other shafts, which helps with the heavy Ping head. I've got it at 45" and swapped the 26 gram weight out for a 23 gram weight to get me to about D3.5. But it's certainly not a low-launching shaft, and I'd love to bring launch and spin down just a little bit, if possible.

I've really liked the Tensei 1K White and to a slightly lesser extent the 1K Orange before. Vastly different profiles, obviously, than my VR, but I've had good dispersion with them. I know the 1K Orange is counterbalanced (though not in an extreme sort of way). Anybody tried it with their G425 Max driver? Any comparisons in terms of how the counterbalance affects the swingweight vs. a non-CB shaft in the same weight class? I was also thinking about dropping down to a 50X instead of 60X, to shave off a few grams of overall weight. Might not work out, but like I said, I'm just experimenting for now while working through these swing changes and will get fit down the road.

A cheaper route I'd also thought about is something like an RDX Blue. I like the hinge and kick and the counterbalance, though it might be more mid-mid than what I'm looking for here.

Driver: Titleist GT3 10° @10.75° | Fujikura Ventus Red 6X

3W: Titleist GT3 15° | Fujikura Ventus Red 7S

7W: Titleist GT2 21° @ 20.25° | Fujikura Ventus Red 7S

Hybrid: Ping G430 5H @ 25° | VA Slay 85S

Irons: Ping i230 5-UW | Fujikura Axiom 105X

Wedges: Callaway Opus 54°/14W, 60°/8C | Nippon Modus 115 Wedge

Putter: Bettinardi 2024 BB1 Wide

Currently testing for GolfWRX: Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon 3W at standard 15° and 5W at +1 19° with Ventus TR Blue 7S, DYNAPWR 4H at standard 22° with Graphite Design Tour AD DI 85S
