Wanted to take a survey of the Golf WRX crowd to see what range everybody shoots in (18 holes) to see what type of average we can get from the community. I heard the average golfer shoots over 100 per round, wanted to see where GolfWRX stacks up to that benchmark.

Feel free to include your Handicap. Exclude outlier rounds.

i put 70-75 but probably should've been 75-80. I play a 75 rated course and am around scratch. So that tends to be what i shoot in terms of my index. However my average score would be higher due to counting every round

I guess i probably average 76-77.

So chalk my answer up to internet lying i guess

That is incredibly impressive regardless lol Ive shot in the 70s 1x in the past 5 years and it was last year when I shot a 78. Shot Par on 80% of holes and eliminated any double bogeys. Followed that up with a nice cool 93 the following weekend 😎

I play an easy muni as my primary course, rated approximately 70 par 71. I can expect to shoot anywhere between 68-73, travels well out West. But the different agronomy/style of golf back East always takes my lunch.

I play it from the tips, about 7100 yards but at 5000' elevation. Naturally a long player (27 YO) from athletic background, but that will change. I'm sure in the next 10 years I'll be moving up tees.

I play an even easier muni that is rated a 68 (from the white tees where I play it) so my 75-80 is probably more like an 80-83 on a tough course. I also typically tee it forward (play 6,000 - 6,200 yds with an avg driver carry of 250-260 yds) because it is much more fun and I still rarely shoot even par.

I guess I should have put that too. My muni course is rated 70 from the Blues and I typically shoot 85-90 (6,600 yards) with a 275 driving distance.

I would play the Whites but hitting nothing but Driver, PW, Driver, PW, Driver, PW over and over and over makes for a very boring round at only 5,800 yards is yawn

To each their own and far be it from me to tell someone else how to enjoy golf but...I have always looked at it as "earning your way back." Do you think you would break 80 from the whites (I am not trolling just asking)? For me, about once a quarter I will play from the red tees (4,750 yds) and I always find it rather exciting and thrilling. Also, the one think I will posit is that from 5,800 yds you don't HAVE to hit driver on every hole. In fact, if you find yourself losing a ball (or two) OB or getting blocked out by trees as a result of your driver, this is where it is helpful to have a hybrid or long iron off the tee on certain troublesome tee shots. Again, if playing from there is boring, well, that defeats the entire purpose of playing the game.

Also, the last round I played at my muni was from 6,000 yds. On the par the 4s I think I went: Driver + 1/2 wedge (3x), Driver + GW (1x), Driver + PW (2x), Driver + 8i (1x), Driver + 7i (1x), Hybrid + GW (1x), Hybrid + 8i (1x) but then again I only carry it about 250-260 yds so I don't hit it as long as you so may not be applicable.

It will just force you to work on a different part of your game. Playing from reds/whites you are going to hit Driver on 14 holes with a 90-120yd PW shot into the green every time. So I guess that would be good if your trying to work on your pitching/chipping a ton. However, playing from Blues/Blacks gives you more diversity and different shots as well. It will force you to work on layup shots and approach shots with a mid-iron from 155-190 yards out.

I found that playing from blue/blacks forces me to use more clubs in my bag, learn how to hit a wider variety of shots and strategically work the hole a lot more.

Not saying its the only way, but it spices up the round a bit more. If I played more often (1x-2x per week) I could certainly take your suggested approach of having more 'practice' type rounds. Since I only golf every other week or every 3 weeks--I not sure I would want to spend those limited times I do get to get out playing from the reds in a practice round you know?

Side note: I think when I play longer distances (blue/black) it makes me focus a lot more since the tee shots and approach shots are more difficult. I think about every shot and focus 110%. If I play red/white I tend to get sloppy/loose and just try to smash the ball off every tee 300yd every time. Thats a me problem though I guess.

My scores run 76-85 on a regular basis.

Played twice last week and shot 78 and 81. Same course, one day windier and slower play.

Week before was 81-83. Two different courses. Shot the 83 on the easier rated course.

Had a 76 the week before that.

Course rating doesnt seem to matter much for me.

I just play the 6100-6400yrd tees.

Gonna go out on a limb as say this qualifies as ‘golf related’. But, that’s cool! 😂 Put myself down for 80-85. I just looked at the poll results. Can not say I was shocked to see the results! The average golfer shoots over 100. The average WRXer wouldn’t be caught dead admitting anything close!! Should do a sister poll for ‘average driving distance’. Above 300 yards will undoubtedly be the leading answer! 🙄😊

No idea, I thought I put this in General but I think a mod moved it here for some reason.

I was shocked by the amount of people who consistently shoot in the 70s lol Ive golfed with a loooot of people I only know 1 that can claim that level of consistency. It seems that we are among the elite here lol

lol true. If Im playing really well Ill shoot in the low 80s, if Im average that day it will be in the mid-high 80s and if Im playing like crap it will be low 90s. Its weird that I am also considered better than a ton of people I golf with. When I shoot a 87, most of the others I play with shoot a 94 and I consider them 'average' weekend golfers.

Im a average weekend golfer myself, the only difference is that I have been playing golf since I was 8 and I played on the team in High school so my 'average' is a little bit better than my buddies 'average'

I put 90-95. I usually only golf 9 and usually shoot low to mid 40's on a course rated 31.9. I added a few strokes each side for a)new course and b) possible fatigue/mental lapse on the back 9.
