Anyone playing Stealth Plus 5 wood??

nickosbad

Recommended Posts

I’m still struggling with the top end of my bag…I have a SIM UDI #2 that I love but I’m looking for something a touch longer.

Ive got a SIM Max 19’ with Smoke Black that flies higher but not much further, currently have a TSi2 3 wood set to 16.5 but just not liking it (and it goes a bit too far)

Bagged a SIM2 Ti 5 wood last year and just didn’t get on with it..maybe due to the colour scheme but the head felt really small

Normal Stealth is out as it sits way too upright so thinking about Stealth Plus 5 wood turned down a touch

Anyone else bagging a Stealth Plus 5 wood??? Are you playing with the stock RDX shaft??

So I can't help you with performance just yet, but I used a TSi2 18° 5W for almost a year and a half and switched to SIM 2 Ti almost 2 months ago. After I made the switch (I purchased on WRX without testing), I ordered the Stealth Plus 5W after hearing it was supposedly easier to hit. I just got my Stealth Plus 5W yesterday, but I've been playing the Stealth Plus 13.5° for around a month and a half now and I was surprised at its forgiveness. I've been using the Tensei AV Raw Blue 68g S in the Rocket, but I've also used the Tour AD-DI 7S in it too and the Tensei seems to yield the best results for me. I ordered the Stealth Plus 5W with the same Tensei AV Raw Blue shaft, but have the same AD-DI in 5W length too to compare them both.

I've been hitting the SIM 2 5W fine, but my issue with it was it seemed like the leading edge was a little sharper and dug into the ground a little more. After comparing the looks of them yesterday, I'm 100% liking the Stealth Plus looks more--leading edge is more rounded and it definitely has a slightly bigger footprint. I'm not playing again until next weekend, but will be happy to report back when I get to put the Stealth Plus into play.

I’m playing the Stealth+ 5w with Ventus Red 7S, tipped 1” and it’s amazing. Carries 230-235 for me and I can go for one and carry it 240.

works great as both a safe-tee club and obviously a club into par 5s. All other 5w I had were good off turf but not great tee clubs because they spun too much and would go nowhere in the slightest breeze.

I also have one in the bag. I find it to be damn near the same performance as the sim2 5 wood I had last year… but that’s good because they’re both great. Mine came with the rdx red in it and it’s one of the worst stock shafts I’ve ever hit.

in regards to you considering one vs your sim udi, I had a sim udi 3 I played at 20° and good shot to good shot, the stealth plus five wood is 30-35 yards longer and my five wood is as close to 19° as you can get.

Great combo. Is your club tipped one inch total or one inch in addition to standard tipping for a 5 wood?

I’ve been gaming the Stealth Plus 3w (13.5 Rocket wood version) for almost a month any agree, it’s surprisingly forgiving and really long off the tee. I have the Stealth 19 degree as well, but was having some gapping issues in between. Was looking for something more of a layup for longer distances and sat on the fence between Stealth Plus 5w or Stealth HL. I liked the performance so much from the Stealth Plus and didn’t wanted to compromise on regular Stealth HL so ruled it out. Since Stealth Plus is pretty fade biased decided against 5W turned down, so opted for Stealth Plus 3W 15 degree and took it out today. Seems like a great combo so far. I may later turn up the 3w to 16.5 and see how it works as well or turn down the rocket wood and use it primarily off the tee. But so far, appears gapping issues have been resolved. Now have to decide which wedge I’ll need to kick out for tourney and competition play or just keep swapping them out depending on course length, design, conditions, etc.

I have the Stealth plus 3 and 5 wood,  both with Ventus red 7x playing at 43 and 42.5 inches respectively.

I absolutely love the 5 wood. It gives my a very consistent 235 carry and very forgiving.

im not in love yet with the 3 wood and it could just be the length I am playing it at. I might shorten that to 42.5 inches to see if I have more consistency. On good hits, the 3 wood is long and straight.

have both 3 and 5 wood. hardly every use the 3 wood, actually thinking about dumping it for just the 5W and a hybrid. 5 wood off the tee today was a nice 280 downhill, and then on a firm fairway crossing wind rolled to 290. (altitude golf is super fun). Even the bad duffed/toed/steep 2 tee shots went 250 and 260 after roll. And this was at 20.5*. Going to try just going right to maybe 18.25 and then drop in a 3H and be happy.

Thanks for this. I would go for the Stealth Plus 5w but I want to hit a draw and I don’t want more loft than 19 degrees. Don’t want the Stealth as I prefer smaller heads. How fade biased is  the Stealth Plus 5 wood? A lot or easy to work a draw anyway?

I can only speak for the Rocket 3w and 15 3w Stealth Plus. I haven’t hit the 5w (went against it since it’s too close to my 3 hybrid and reasons I stated earlier for not wanting to put more fade to a fade biased club). As for can you draw or hit the Stealth Plus straight, answers are yes IMO as long as you deliver with a shot shaping swing. Myself, I just try to be conscious to keep the club face as squared off as possible in my delivery and not try to come over and down on the ball. I also find the 15 degree is a bit easier to hit straight or draw vs. Rocket 3w. Would imagine the 5w would be even easier.

Some solid players and admitted TM fanboys I know are saying the 5W Plus is hot off the face and quite long at even standard loft — and you can stretch it out with a lower launching shaft and take off a little spin because it launches and stops well anyway. I am going to check one out again tomorrow. I’ve looked at it before. It sets up pretty sweet behind the ball.

Like you I’ve got gaps I’m trying to fill. I see it as my primary fairway wood off turf and I am always happy to hit a 5 wood off the tee when called for. Has to be an almost automatic fairway finder to make the bag. And I want to see can I get 4 wood distance? It would set up my bag perfect if I can. If I can’t reach a par 5 with a 4 wood, I’m not reaching. Or I could see if I can handle the Plus 3 wood off turf and loft up. I’m playing the original Epic SubZero 5 wood right now. Awesome off the tee, I have had some low-spinners on mishits off turf. One thing I do like is it has a Tour AD TP shaft and it is tight.

Oh ya agree the 5W is hot. I think playing it at 18.25 or 19 will gap just fine with a shorter shafted stealth plus rescue playing around 20*.

Follow-up from this - just tried out the 18.25 compared to my 16.5 stealth plus. Ball speed was 149.5 vs 151, and un-dotted spin was about 500 more with the 18.25. But there were a few thinned/bottomed strikes with the 3W, and only 1 with the 5W. On two like-for-like shots, where trackman must have actually caught spin (since the number wasn't italicized), from a small tee, 5W/18.25 was 99.8 mph, 149.9 ball, 258 carry, and 3W was 101 mph, 150.9 ball, 261 carry. 3W rolled 6 yards farther.

So.. yes, 5W at the top of the bag solo may be all that's needed after driver. Cause I'm more than ok with 260 off the tee that's more controlled/easier to swing and gap something in below it. beggars can't be choosers, and I'm not gonna beg for a hotter 3W for 10 more yards than that.

I just opted for 5 and 3w stealth+. About 20 yard gaps on both, but may loft up the 5w for spins/launch/decent. About 230 and 250 carry for me with smooth swings. Was workable both ways.  Chose Kai’li white 70x for both at standard lengths. May also look at blue when it ships for higher launch. Was close on RDX shaft, but Kai felt more smooth.

I ended up with a similar plan - have always hit my 3W mediocre unless I was able to practice with it a lot. During my fitting we tried to find a 5 wood that would be able to slot in as the only gap between driver and hybrid.

Ended up going with the Stealth+ 5W with Accra FX 3.0 and it is a great club for me. Was carrying it farther than my i20 3 wood while getting the benefit of being easier to hit than a 3 wood

Finally got mine into play today and after playing the SIM 2 Ti for the last month or so and the TSi2 for the previous year plus before that, I was very pleased with it today. Feels more powerful than both other models I've played recently and it's just super solid. I'll also say that it seemed more forgiving to me than the SIM 2, which is really the reason I was switching to it in the first place. I was really pleased overall with my TSi2 I had as well, but I wanted some more pop--Stealth Plus is giving me the pop and to me, feels just as forgiving as the TSi2.

First swing with the 5 wood on the course. Had 245 to the flag on par 5 and  hit a blistering high draw that carried forever.

5 wood should be a 240 club for me. Replaced an M3 tour issued 5 wood that went exactly 230-235 yards. Going to need some more swings to dial it in, but it’s easy to hit high and long for sure.

I’m struggling with the 3 wood slot. I have the stealth plus 3 wood turned down 1 with a kai’li 80tx tipped 1.5 and it’s the best 3 wood I’ve bagged since my tour issue 16 m1  but I have a sim2 ti 5 wood turned to lower to test lately with a LTD 80tx tipped 1.5 and in my round the other day in testing on a par 4 and carried it 262 with no roll from a wet fairway so do I need a 3 wood that goes 275-280 carry? Anyone looking at a stealth plus 3 wood won’t be disappointed at all. Debating on selling just because it’s too long but that’s the only bad thing I can say about the club.
