DG 120 X100 in irons, wedges?

I play the DG 120 X100 in my irons which I have liked. I use the DG S400 in my wedges (which I have generally liked) but didn’t realize there is a DG 120 S400 as well. For those who play DG 120 in their irons, what shafts do you use for your wedges?

I am on the fence on this one at the moment. I currently play the DG 120 stiff in my irons and did the 8i x100 (130g) trick in my 52/56/60 wedges. However, I also didn’t realize the DG 120 X100 was an option at the time (brain fart). Although I like the 130g 8i X100’s and hitting them well, but I feel that extra 10g is a little too much.  That said, the 120g 8i X100 is back ordered so I’m stuck with my current setup until they are available again.  For S&G I ordered a KBS 610 wedge shaft in stiff which is 120g (for weight comparison testing) and just re-shafted my 60* tonight.  I’ll find out over the next few days if the KBS shaft and the 120g weight in my wedges is for me or not.  My initial feel is that it may be a touch too light, but I’m hoping I may get used to the weight over time. I’m hoping the 120g weight in my wedges works out so I can play the DG 120 X100 8i in my wedges as I really like the feel and results just not the weight of the 130g shafts.

If your dont mind lead tape, you can always add weight to a 120 grams shaft if it turns out a little to light. That option is often overlooked, even among lead tape users.

Thanks for the suggestion Howard.  That was my plan, as I think 125g maybe the sweet spot.

In this case, would you split the 5g of lead tape between the head and under the grip?

I would just put all 5g right on the head.

If we want to gain shaft wgt, we should use the shafts balance point, who is close to the middle of the shaft, so find the middle, and let the lead tape go in both directions (grip to head) from that point. Add it on the underside of the shaft, so you dont have to look at it from address.

I'm looking for some options as well. I currently play the Dynamic Gold 120 S300's in my 50/55/60. I stayed away from the tour issue 120 S400s because of the price and from what I've read, the 120 S300s and 120 S400 TIs are almost identical shafts. At least the specs are identical. I like the S300's for pitching and chipping around the green but I'm not thrilled with full shots from 100yrds+.

Bumping this topic to see if anyone else will chime in.

Toying with wedge shafts at the moment. Played TI S400 the last couple years, but want something a little lighter in GW and SW. Modus wedge 125 in the LW will likely stay put.

Ordering a 50° soon and may give the 120 x100/s300 (+5 grams of lead tape on the shaft) a go.

Played the 120 S400 Tour issue in my wedges for a really long time but just made the switch to KBS Tour Wedge Custom Series 120-S because they felt A LOT softer imo. 120 S400 were a lot stiffer than what I like in a wedge shaft

if you like decreased spin though get the 120 S400's (on tour the 120 X100 and 120 S400 spin less than their 130g counterparts)

Timely input...coincidentally I was looking at that exact shaft. Nice that Cleveland offers at a really reasonable upgrade price so will snag that for my 50*

I use my gap wedge for around the green shots too much to leave the DG 120 in but its a great shaft for full swing wedges

Having this same problem. I play DG 120 X100 in irons. I think my solution will be to play some configuration of the AMT x100 shafts in my wedges. AMT x100 7 iron is 124 grams and the 8 iron is 127 grams.

That’s a really good idea and could be a fun test.  Would be fun to see variations of creating an 8i spinner, using the 7i, etc with amt.  Nice call!

I always felt the weight and feel in the 7i in the amt is just about perfect.

He plays DG 120 X in irons, how can a X flex #7 or #8 be a spinner shaft then?

its still NOT a spinner shaft, but will be higher launching with LESS spin than using a DG 120 X #9 iron shaft

Absolutely, some players prefer softer and higher launching wedges if they are players enough to flight it down when needed, others could need some help from the equipment itself to do that. Its never been "one size fits all", so each player has to find what works the best for him.....the only rule valid in the end is...what ever works

Howard, as a DG 120 X100 player I’m not sure how to do the 8 iron spinner trick without going up a good amount of weight to the 130 gram range. Would the AMT X100 8 iron be any stiffer than the DG120x 9 iron due to the 7 gram weight difference?

I just told you all, NO, a #8 iron shaft from AMT is softer than a #9 120
Go into the Pinned topic, read whats in the RED frame, and you will know what to do without going up in weight
