RGC Breaking Pinehurst #2 🌲

Being a member I found this to be an interesting watch. A few comments. 

 

1) Based on what I could judge on video I would say that the greens were a bit faster than they play typically for member/resort play. They were relatively receptive, however. 

 

2) A number of the holes were a good bit shorter than typical for US Open tees. However I am not like real familiar with those tees as I have no business being there and most often the tee markers are not even set out. Hole #13 was over 100 yards short. #9 around 50-60 yards short (not even the same hole at 125 yards vs 185 going into a treacherous green). Hole #10 is usually 615 vs 565. 

 

3) Low skill players who play this course often will run the ball onto the green much more than what I recall seeing in this video. And I know a couple of close to scratch players who do the same thing - Bic Long (former national amputee champion) being one of those when he was alive. 

 

4) I have always found No. 2 to be a somewhat soothing course to play somehow (despite the persistent risks constantly in your face around the greens). And it is a walker's dream. A group of four of us used to play No. 2 and walk it once a month back before the redesign when they had rough. It doesn't take much bermuda rough to hide a golf ball and I used to average finding 2-3 pretty much new ProV1's each of those rounds in the areas between the tee box and the start of the fairway. You just had to look carefully. Spinal Stenosis prevents me from doing that that these days. 

 

5) Maybe it was the cameras running but I don't see the lefty beating anybody in a handicapped event (at index = 8 anyway).

I’ve never played Pinehurst but the cast was playing from the US open tees! Ooooof 😅 The waste areas look like a pain in the a** and the greens are diabolical. Beautiful looking course. One of the caddy’s seemed fed up dealing with all the hacking going on. Really like the commentary. What’s everyone’s thoughts on the players? I won’t ruin it for those who haven’t watched yet.

The last time I was as Pinehurst a few years back I was a 3.  That course ate my lunch (from the whites).  The issue was actually scoring. There weren't many hazards and fairways were ample enough but the greens were NASTY.  Putt, chip, putt again was a real possibility.  Playing from the US Open tips (7500 yards, par 70) the girl will have difficulty holding the greens with the clubs I'd guess she would be coming in with.  See attached scorecard.
