Speith gave NA the cold shoulder this week. A lot of the PGA guys are on GM side for obvious reasons.

Ok, cool. I wasn’t even brining up the LIV angle. I was on Na’s side until he went to the Bonesaw tour.

I don’t like GM for reasons we don’t talk about on the WRX

Not a fan of either but good on GM to make the cut.  Wish he'd let his play speak for him instead of opening his mouth.  Na doesn't need to defend sh*t either.  Just let your body of work and bank account do the talking for you.  But that's just so hard.  I give Na credit for getting alot better in terms of speeding up his play.  Also for getting over the yips.  Remember he used to back off a dozen times, even whiffing over the ball.  Both players acting like petulent children.  Grow the f*#& up.

I'm sure all the guys on the slower side would be happy to play faster if they could pull it off. Golf is hard. It takes some serious grinding to shoot the scores they have to shoot to stay exempt and to finish comfortably in the money.

I'm also pretty confident that further analysis hasn't been provided because the majority of them play equally slowly. There are many pivotal moments that need to be negotiated carefully to maintain an under par card when you make mistakes and put your ball in difficult places.

Why do the slow guys get to use "it's hard to grind and shoot those scores" but the guys who both shoot those scores and play fast have to suffer?  At some point the playing field needs to be level, and that includes how long it takes you to play.

I read recently, while going down a rabbit hole about a musician who recently passed away and his troubles playing live, someone said "you can be as good as anyone in the studio, but if you can't play live, you aren't any good."  Basically, if these players can't shoot the scores while playing within the proper amount of time, they can't shoot the scores.  You don't get all day to be ready to hit a shot.

I can’t argue that it isn’t unfair, the slow play. The music analogy needs some context. Being a great studio genius like a Donald Fagan or a Gerry Rafferty is quite a bit more of a musical accomplishment than crushing it live backing up Fred Durst.

I suppose, but Fagan was more of a stage fright thing, not a "get up there and play but make mistakes."  Maybe they are the same thing, I don't consider them to be.

Didn't realize Rafferty didn't do live shows.

Fagan and Becker could play fine live, Gerry Rafferty might have been closer to the stage freight designation. I just think guys like them deserve to be revered. Playing live isn’t quite the same as creating magical songs. Some of these guys are much like the great studio players of the past, The Wrecking Crew, The Swampers, Reggie Young and his crew. They liked creating in the studio and they were quite good.

but don’t mind me, I’ve been drinking since noon. The example made sense, it showed that a player should be able to show their chops in a timely fashion in the heat of competition. I’m just picking on it, being a knob as the brits say 🙂

Na vs Murray really is the definition of a lose lose situation. If I had the option of being stuck on a desert island with either one of them, I would walk straight into the ocean and never be seen again.
