Putting together a 588 set.

So it's been probably 10 years since I've played Cleveland wedges. But after seeing a new 588 RTG PW head on the bay I got suckered into putting together a set. Thanks to gator5 for the 51*.

 

I'm going 47,51,54,60.

 

Ive always loved these classics. And after seeing a buddy with a couple in the bag I decided to go back in time and do it too. Anyone else still like these? I was wondering how old the PW I got is? Or when they stopped making this series.

I still have my 56* RTG588, but I got rid of my 64* years ago.  I’d have no problem swapping out my CBX for the RTG if needed.

I still have a 64 in tour chrome.

I still have these in one of my bags and have the matching 64* for when I drop the 4i and want the extra wedge.  Although these are tour issued RTG heads that had a vinegar bath last year and I just re-shafted.

 

I did and still do want to pair them with a split set of the last 588 CB/MB's that Cleveland put out from like 10 years ago or when ever.

My #1 son still plays these.  He has the Diadic 53° and the SW at 57°.  He bought them new in 2003 I think.  I bought a pair of 588 DSG new in 2008, a 54° and 60° that #2 son has in his bag now.

 

The 588 was the 5th iteration by Roger Cleveland and debuted in 1988.  They were in production in one form or another for 20 years.  They may still be available with conforming grooves as appears to be the case with your wedges.

Ya I have been unable to determine if they are still in some sort of production or if the PW is several years old.... Very curious though

588 TG 54* and 60* wide soles were the best I’ve ever played…

588 Diadic 53* is one of the best wedges ever made in my opinion. That 47* you snagged looks sweet too!

Ya it's getting shafted soon. I'm glad I picked it up. It was on eBay for a while surprisingly... Finally had to just get it. Took the 54* to the local pitch and putt this past weekend and pretty amazed how much more spin they produce with the old grooves over my sm4s....🤷

Always liked my 588 RTG 54*.  Stupidly dumped it many years ago when switching over to other brands as I thought the S400 was too much (sigh).  The 57* was also quite nice for all sorts of shots.  Never did like the 60* even though it was my first RTG and bought a raw Punch forged instead.  Always wanted to like that 53* Diadic because the specs made a lot of sense, but just never looked right to my eye vs. the 54*.  It’s like there was more offset.  
 

Currently playing a set of 588P RTG irons, so really should try to find another 588 54* and maybe a 57* to go with it.
