Who are you guys using to ship clubs?

I know I’m pretty late to the game, but I only sell sporadically. I listed and sold a few things today and dreaded going to the post office, when I remembered reading about Pirate Ship on WRX. I figured I’d give it a try. Both boxes were driver boxes (48x6x6), both going to Ohio from NJ. The base price with standard $100 insurance was $8.50 for UPS Ground, which should get there Tuesday. The second box needed $300 in insurance, so it was $11.00. I compared to the USPS rates, and these were about half. I dropped them off at the UPS store and got the shipping confirmation in under a minute.

Setting up an account took about 30 seconds and the entire process less than 2 minutes per package. What an awesome service.

It is amazing. And UPS will actually deliver on time way more frequently than USPS.

Never had a problem with usps like others, but wish I explored pirate ship much sooner.

Other than a couple delayed packages, which happens with every shipper, I haven’t had real issues with USPS either. But going to the post office isn’t fun, and the prices are getting ridiculous.

 

This type of service just makes sense because there is such a huge difference between retail shipping rates and company discounted rates. Plenty of margin in between for a business to succeed.

That is UPS Ground.  With USPS I could send a long package across the US via Priority Mail in just a few days.  NO more, ugh.

Yes, because the distance was relatively short, UPS Ground was the prices noted, UPS 3 Day was $4 more…and a day later 😂

Not sure what the time difference would be on a cross country package. Though the last Priority package I sent to Florida from NJ took 10 days when it should have taken 2-3.

Much quicker now that the virus issues are over.  Sent an iron from N. CA to S. Carolina in March on Sat and it was there Monday!  Really will miss USPS for the quick service compared to using ground UPS.

I thought the same thing about it being better after Covid but I've had 2 USPS packages in the last month that took at least twice the amount of quoted time. Worst part is they don't have good tracking between so any "updates" are just vague statements saying it's on the way.

Just skimming the thread quickly I thought you might be referring to putting multiple boxes together in a way that it kind of emulated a pirate ship.

Pirate ship is amazing. I’m in Sonoma County - ups and fedex is pretty consistent, but usps is always twice the time I’m quoted.. is it the Amazon effect?

Not sure if this belongs I. here, but who are you guys using to ship clubs? I just paid around 30 to ship a Fairway Wood, when normally it would've been 15 Max.

Shipping rates are all over the place right now it's insane. The biggest factors in price are:

 

* Box size (I believe anything over 40 or 42" long is oversize rate)

* Weight (obviously lighter is cheaper)

* End Point (bigger cities are cheaper, cost to coast basically increases by 50%, etc)

 

I've shipped a bunch of clubs lately and it has mostly made no sense. I've shipped to Florida for like 15 with USPS, to Ohio with FedEx for 30, to New York State for 18 with USPS in the biggest and heaviest box, I think I sent something to Washington state for like 20 with USPS and this is all going from Niagara Falls, NY.

 

As you can see all over the place, it makes no sense at times. Best option is use a shipping service like Pirate Ship or similar that will show all available rates and you just pick the best then and there. Nothing else you can really do with prices going up other than shipping in the smallest and lighting package you can to save a few bucks but could end up in a broken club.

It's suggested in a lot of hobby circles where shipping happens, they're not up in Canada but I use a freight service and when I ship I get like 3-5 options for shipping and just pick the best combo of speed and price which is basically the same thing.

I just want to add that I sold a few items last week and used the PayPal shipping label option and felt the UPS prices were very reasonable! I def won't miss dealing with USPS.

I just signed up with Pirate Ship.  I sold a 10 iron set, with an extra set of shaft pulls in the box, 14 pounds total... $14.82 for UPS ground.  USPS wanted over $40.  "Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer!"

It was only a matter of time until someone exploited the huge difference between the retail price of shipping and the price paid by large corporate customers. I work for a multibillion dollar medical manufacturer with corporate FEDEX and UPS accounts. If I bring a package to FEDEX office to ship, the retail rate is at minimum 4 times the corporate rate.

Wondering if anyone has used FedEx with any regularity? Many years ago, I used to work for UPS & prefer to not use them at all...to the extent that I've even asked my Family not to utilize their shipping. 
Anyway, just wondering, cuz as I find out what's in storage, I'll be offering up vintage sets & orphan clubs for sale....haven't figured out just how to set that up - perhaps here, or fb marketplace or Etsy....

Yes, I regularly use FedEx for eBay sales and UPS for private. Both have their issues….but prefer FedEx if I can get good price for air ship.

30” or more in length goes by UPS Ground now due to the $15 surcharge USPS has added.

 

Anything under 30” is shipped by Priority Mail.

 

Ship via Paypal (ShipStation) for selling on sites and through eBay for eBay sales.  
 

eBay shipping is cheaper as I get a discount but more than makes up for it with the 10% eBay fee on the sale price plus shipping.
