"Strapped" YouTube series from No Laying Up

Anyone else enjoying Strapped on YouTube? 

 

The concept is that two guys go on three-day golf trips with a budget of only $500 for both of them. That has to cover their golf, lodging and meals. They also have a limited number of balls to use (they can purchase more but it counts against their budget) and they have a money game round where they can win or lose extra bucks. 

 

Watching two strangers play golf is the kind of thing that could either be super annoying or super entertaining. In this case it is a joy to watch. They guys are genuinely good dudes who are funny and relatable. They're always rooting for each other and working together to try to maximize their fun within the limited rules of the project. And they always meet some awesome locals who add to the flavor of the towns they're in.

Always like the Strapped series. Some are obviously better than others and I think the early strapped episodes are the best. The later ones they seem to complain a little more but they are still fun to watch. Reno was probably my favorite.

I like the fact that they're never playing against each other. It keeps the energy positive. You can tell the dudes really love each other. If it was phony at all the thing wouldn't work.

Hard not to like Max Homa after seeing this one.

Love it.  My wife and I watch religiously.  It's our favorite NLU content and some of the best YT golf content out there.  So much of what I think gets focused on in terms of travel golf is making pilgrimage type trips or going to high end resorts, but the whole concept of this series just resonates with me and why I love golf.

 

I don't think it's hyperbole to say the most recent season in South Carolina had one of the best season endings in television.  If you've followed Big Randy and Neil through the years, it's hard not to love the Waffle House scene and I can't wait to see what happens in the next season.  They've really done a great job throughout the years of telling compelling stories, developing themselves as characters, and making the show about more than just watching them play.

 

10/10, would recommend.

All of the NLU content makes me want to take more golf trips but Strapped does a good job of balancing expectations. Like @Poor Mans Ty Webbsaid, it reminds you that you don't have to go to a Top 100 golf destination to have a good time. In many cases you may have more fun going somewhere all your buddies can afford than doing a solo or small trip to Bandon or something. Both have their place but my friends and I do a budget trip to Alabama many times (not RTJ trail, I have too many issues with RTJ) and it is fun in a different way than say Pinehurst is. There is room for both in my life. 

 

Also, on a side note, someone explained NLU as like Sex and the City for guys where everyone identifies with one or more of the crew. This initially offended me but has slowly been accepted as having some merit. Fortunately or unfortunately I relate most to Tron, though his fashion sense is horrific.

I’ve really dug into it this week, probably in anticipation of my golf trip this weekend which has finally commenced.

I like how they find the pleasures of the game in any sort of layout. It’s a great attitude to have, especially for we US golfers who have been conditioned to expect pristine golf. 
 

I find I enjoy munis just as much as country clubs.

Today we were in Cherokee, NC. Will be at Springdale GC in Canton, NC all weekend. 28 guys, stableford individual comp and Ryder style team comp. So pumped.

Their day to day shtick is not always my thing and thats fine, I know a ton of people like it.

 

But the series they did in Ireland should have been on the Golf Channel, it was *that* freaking good. Just top to bottom an absolute A+.

DJ Pie is an awesome story teller in the editing room. Tourist Sauce Ireland and the Strapped series are my favorites and I keep going back to them.
