We talkin about practice. Not a game, not a round, not a tournament. We talkin about practice.

 

What's the best way to practice?

Is it important to have a plan? How do we come up with one?  

What about if we're making a serious swing change? How do we learn the change, then incorporate it into our swings so we don't revert to our old move on the course? 

What about putting practice? Short game practice?

 

If we're making a change or not, should we spend time on sequencing? How?

Should we spend time on experimentation? Skill building - like club face control, low point control, impact location control like is it on the toe, the heel, high on the face, low in the face?

 

How about trying to increase our speed? Should we practice trying to swing as hard as we can? As fast as we can? How do we know the difference?

 

What about if we aren't making a major change? How should our practice change? Should we have a plan if no swing changes?

It is a bit tough to respond because you have 18 questions.  
 

The best book about practice that I’ve come across is “The Practice Manual” by Adam Young.  “Lowest Score Wins” by Erik Bajeski and David Wedzik, which sort of builds off of Mark Broadie’s work toward practice planning, is also excellent.  I’m sure there are others as well.

 

The key to any practice plan is first to know WHAT you should be practicing.  If you aren’t keeping stats, do.  If you are, use ‘em.

Lot of this depends on where at with your swing. If you're happy with it, you can work more on distance/trajectory control.

I meant this as a general discussion. Those are stream of thought questions someone might have. There are so many posts that ask, "Help me stop slicing!" or "How to get my pelvis to stop going towards the ball" or "Why am I hooking my driver?". 

 

I was hoping we could share how we as members of this community look at practice.  Who we involve and how we go about it.

Most of my practice time is distance trajectory control because most of my shots on the course are not stock, full  shots with any club outside 3w/driver. Occasionally I'll flight the 3w/driver depending on demands at the time. As a result, my arccos club distances are all over the place so i have to exclude a lot of shots for planning purposes
