The itinerary is finally finalized.

We are heading back to Scotland for the Open and Ireland for 9 rounds of golf.

 

Suggestions for pubs, restaurants, things to do, caddies and a course to play on July 24th in the morning would be greatly appreciated!

July 15th is my 50th and this is how we (me and my boyfriend) celebrate!!

 

Looking into oysters at Ryan's, Leo Burdock's fish and chips, Temple Bar, The Stags Head, Kehoes Pub, Mulligan's and O'Neill's in Dublin on our first night in Ireland.

Since it's probably not a smart idea to hit all these pubs, help me to weed some out!

 

I'm thinking about playing Castlerosse Golf Club on July 24th on our resting day.

It's 9 hole course and 20 min walk from our hotel.

Would I be able to walk up and play as a single?

Anyone played this course?

 

Also Lahinch Castle on July 25th.

2 min walk from our hotel and 50 euro is hard to pass up.

Walk up single is possible?

Are you staying in the Temple Bar area? We stayed on the North Side of the River on Parnell Street. We weren’t a big fans of Temple Bar. We went there our first night but it’s a little on the grimy side. We stayed around the O’Connell street area our other nights and much preferred that. Our two favorite spots were Madigan’s and Murray’s but we had some pints in Flanagan’s. Didn’t play golf when I was in Killarney, just toured the Park, Rosses Castle, and Torq waterfall. Definitely don’t miss the waterfall… At Lahinch, Castle is a flat bland course. If you’re playing for just convenience it’s ok and would think you wouldn’t have an issue getting out. If you’re wanting to play there are better options close by Spanish Point €35 is about 20 min drive from Lahinch.

We are staying on the other side of Trinity College.

It'll be a 20 min walk to Temple Bar and we'll run into enough pubs.

 

I would imagine Temple Bar is a tourist trap.

I just want to see it, have a pint and buy a t-shirt.

 

Castle would be the most convenient for me to squeeze in 18 holes.

We are not going to rent a car and have a driver between hotels and courses.

20 min car ride or anything other than our itinerary would be an extra stretch.

(including Park, Rosses Castle, and Torq waterfall though they all look amazing)

You are correct about Temple Bar being a tourist trap. North City (O’Connell street area) is just on the other side of the river which is about a 10 min walk from the college. Grafton Street is the main shopping area of Dublin so that’s very close to you as well. Many bars and restaurants.

Evidently it was to everyone else but us?

It has to be two directs we took JFK to Edinburgh and Glasgow to Dublin.

Seems like if you fly connecting, you are pretty much screwed.

This is what we saw when we landed in Edinburgh at the baggage claim.
