Why in the world would you think that?

Why in the world would you assume that?

Why in the world would you be surprised if lawyers say stuff without evidence?

Come in, guys.

If there were meat, they would have put it in.  When somebody quotes a bunch documents, but does not quote the “smoking gun,” there is no smoking gun.

Do you know how legal actions work?

The evidence is shared during discovery, collected in depositions, and presented in a courtroom if necessary. It isn’t included in the complaint.

But sure. Keep schooling us.

Speaking of meals, I wonder how the family dinner at the Nicklaus household goes with Jack Nicklaus II (Jackie) being vice-chairman of the company that's suing old Dad?

Son: hey, dad, can you pass the salt please?

father: Barbara.

'Talking to' a company or a Tour or a league or whatever can mean virtually anything.

Could have been an agent that is representing LIV that Jack has had connections with in the past.  The agent representing LIV may have not been upfront with Jack on who he was representing and just wanted Jack to hear the idea.

It seems like a lot of details still need to wash out on this one, but I sort of get the feeling this will be another example of the sad lack of loyalty and professionalism in our new reality. A guy creates something, an entity, with his sweat and dedication, and it turns around and has a run at his legacy over a few hundred million dollars. Nothing and nobody is safe or sacred anymore.

i never thought about it this way, always figured JN was content and very satisfied with his standing as GOAT and whatever “attention” and accolades he gets from media and fans.

But maybe hes actually a bit bitter about how TWs fame and brand have exponentially eclipsed his own.

Even better, it's 18>15!

But seriously, I think(and this deduced using the scientifically approved method of not staying at a Holiday Inn Express last night), I think he might a)compartmentalize the "golf legacy" and "attention" stuff away from business.  He has had a couple of significant business challenges over his career, and given how dedicated to his family he is, he likely wants to make sure that they are well taken care of, and he wants to avoid any hiccups.

I don't think Woods' situation ever crosses his mind in that regard.  The man came of age while Arnold Palmer was making way more money than him, even though he was clearly the better golfer.  I think it really comes down to some form of making sure his grandkids' grandkids don't have to worry about money.

That's my 11 cents awyway.

Ah, I had no idea he had failed at business so much. I did a quick google on

Jack Nicklaus business failure

And it’s sorry to see.

Well, hope this all gets sorted out. As far as his grandkids kids etc. Best thing for em is to learn to make their owns 💰; )

Failure seems like the wrong word, mistakes seems better.

I don’t know how a guy can come up with a shiny yellow bear with which to logo himself, his clothing, and some halfway decent golf clubs and design a mother bulk of the modern golf courses in the resort world, and be even associated with the word failure. But what do I know, I am on a low pay grade in this place, that I do know, lol

There is a certain amount of ego required to get to where Jack has in the world. It will cloud ones judgement. Phil can attest to that.

I used to work at the driving range of a fairly respectable public course when I was in short pants. The GM had met both Nicklaus and Palmer. He told me Jack was immediately looking for someone else to talk to, he said Arnie made him feel like he was the only guy in the room. That one always stayed with me.

Come on now my friend - there's been nothing about how Nicklaus has conducted life or business to suggest he's bitter or jealous or anything negative about Tiger Woods and any of his success.  He's a person who has always been pretty secure with who he is - why else would he have ever suggested we play oversized golf holes and some of the other corny stuff he comes up with, lol?  His public statements over the last 25 years are 99.9% consistent when it comes to respect for Tiger Woods and his comments on his own legacy.

His historical business acumen was justifiably questioned for a long time, made the mistake of trusting people, made his own mistakes, etc. but overall been a win for his lifetime.

Jack's old and I don't agree with those now trying to inject a note of bitterness into the discussion - no question there is none re Woods, no reason to suggest otherwise other than it's convenient because he's old.

His passions the last couple decades have been his family and the multitudes of grandchildren, charity work, design work and the Memorial.  Other than that he freely has admitted for years he doesn't really play golf or enjoy it all that much or pay much attention to it and the golf side of the business in the US has always been a pretty minor player in terms of the things that seem to be his real interests.

I met 'em both at the Senior US Open at Pinehurst back in '94. Me and my best friend (also high school teammate and the only guy I've played more rounds with than my dad) went and we were hanging out by the exit from the clubhouse near the range to meet whoever we could.

Jack came out and was pleasant enough, signed autographs for us and went on his way. When Arnie finally came out; he not only signed autographs but took a couple minutes to talk to us about how our game was, how our team was doing (we'd won our conference that year), etc. Finally said "I'll see you boys on tour in a few years."

Arnie really was something special.

No doubt they had very different personalities and engaged with fans very differently.  I would have treasured the opportunity to meet either or both for sure.  Arnold seemed to thrive on being with "the guys" at home and playing golf constantly, was just gregarious and larger than life just sitting in a golf cart, I would guess.  Sometimes I'm more like Freddie - I don't answer the phone because I'm afraid there might be someone on the other end. 😀

Great post and I agree 100% with all.

Jack has carried himself with grace and dignity always.

But he must have some bitterness!

Especially great competitor that he is. It would be unnatural for him to not be bitter about the magnitude of TWs success.

Or that he made,

5.7MM in his career on tour

And guys who aren’t fit to lace his shoes make that in a year!

And now, there’s gonna be some complete “nobody” who’s gonna make 5MM in 54 holes in London!!

So, while we don’t know the full picture, I could see him, with respect to the Saudi billions being tossed around, being like,

Where’s mine!

I really don’t mean it as a knock on him. It would just be being human.

Greg Norman is bitter!

I think Jack is a bit bemused these days!

I’ll definitely be watching the real news when we get it about what was said by whom and when.

When he owned Palmer Golf Clubs it was based here. He had a few other properties in town including a vacant lot in a subdivision near my high school. A friend of mine used to mow the lot for Arnie and get checks mailed to him from Arnie’s business office.

Well if it's only about money sure, maybe but it's not like Jack is a pauper 🙂  But 18 is still greater than15 and it doesn't look like that record is going to be broken anytime soon 🙂.  Who knows maybe that person isn't even born yet.

Well okay I can't argue with that. I mean Poulter's clothing line is obnoxious like his personality. The way things are today a "celebrity" could crap in a box and sell it for a few million 🤣

Agreed. I just hope Tiger doesn't decide to invest in and more importantly drive a Ferrari--- valuation might go down to scrap price 🙂

If one were to see Tiger getting behind the wheel of any ‘super car’, I’d say a citizen’s arrest wouldn’t be considered out of line. At very least a heartfelt conversation would be in order. 😝

*just a joke guys 😇
