Odyssey White Hot OG #7 CH vs SC Phantom X7

So looking at these putters...I really like the alignment lines on these models, but are they basically the same in performance.....

 

Is the White Insert better, softer, less or the same as SC's milled face???

 

I hear SC's grip is not really ideal.....and you can get Odyssey's Stroke Lab version for $270 vs $430 for the SC.....but does the extra $160 for the SC really make a difference......

 

Lastly, does the SC come with a cover or do you have to buy one separately?

 

I really like to do this once and not have buyers remorse.....going to PGASS to do the putter fitting....but I also don't want to spend a boat load of money upgrading the SC when the Odyssey can basically perform at the same level right out of the box....

About a month ago I went to buy one of the new 2022 SC Phantom 5.5's. This was the week after they were released and there wasn't one to be had locally. I started playing around with an Odyssey White Hot OG 7S with the Stroke Lab shaft and was sinking putts in the store left and right so I bought it. I couldn't stand it for too long though so I found the SC I wanted on-line and bought it too. The Odyssey feels fine with the stock DFX Pistol grip but I've changed the Scotty to a Superstroke Traxion 2.0

 

The jury is still out on which one will be "the one" for this year but I'm sinking about the same amount of putts with the Odyssey as I am the Scotty for alot less $$ investment. With that said I've worked in aerospace for over 40 years and the machining and finish of the Scotty really appeal to me.....

First, if you love the plumber’s neck/crank hosel you only have one option. I have seen some nice circle T plumbers neck phantoms, but not retail. Second, the phantom has a garbage headcover with Velcro closure. Odyssey has a magnet clasp on the cover like every putter should. Third, odyssey white hot insert will feel softer that the SC. I think there are other putters that put a better roll on the ball, but both WH and SC milled will have their fans. Fourth, not everyone putts well with a counterbalanced putter. Try the steel shafted Odyssey and compare it to the stroke lab if you can. There a number of people that find lag putting difficult with a stroke lab shaft. 
 

Personally, I bought the steel shafted WH #7 CH for $200 and put a super stroke grip on it. I can counterbalance it with a weight plug if I want to, but often leave it out.

the odyssey 7 ch is lethal on the greens. ive been playing mine all year and i feel as tho i hit my line almost very putt. i always square the putter up at impact. the 7 ch is one of the best rolling putters ive ever played.

Agreed! Have one that’s currently on the sideline as I’m playing the odyssey eleven center shafted right now but I know the 7 CH will come back into play sometime this year.

7ch stuck around for me, x7 didn’t. 
 

I hated how the x7 didn’t frame the ball. The long white lines are slightly narrower than the width of the ball and it drove me crazy.

I would vote Odyssey and save your money, they will perform very similar IMO. I have the OG 7s and have found it so easy to start the ball on line and the weight of my putts seems very consistant and feels great off the face.

My regular gamer for the past decade was a NP2.  I tried some mallets to experiment with more forgiveness over the last year.  I love the milling and feel of the Phantom line and rotated quite a few of them through - 11.5, 11, 5, 5.5.  The only one I have left is the 5.5 and I struggle with it.  The 7ch is in the bag.  Why?  I start putts on line with it almost every attempt.  What could bump it out of the bag?  A fully milled plumbers neck fang mallet, either Toulon or SC.  Btw I prefer steel over stroke lab.

Well if u got $1500 to spend on a putter, you can enter into the Toulon’s small batch drawing for a chance at purchasing this Monaco right now haha

My wish for Toulon is that they would sell the mint-cream LV ch hosel again.  That was a beautiful piece.

Agreed, I wonder why they stopped offering the LV ch. I own a 2022 Chicago and i must say it’s impressive how soft it is for a stainless-steel putter, I think they nailed it with the deep diamond milling pattern
