Last minute Scotland Tips/advice

I am finally getting to head to Scotland for my dream trip to St Andrews and Muirfield next week after being postponed for 2 plus years. Any last minute tips/ advice or packing necessities that can be over looked?

Bring plenty of warm clothes we seem to be in the middle of a cold, windy spell of weather.

Was just in St. Andrews last week. Make sure you alert your credit card companies that you will be traveling. More importantly contact your banking card so you can take pounds out at a regular bank cash machine in town. They're everywhere. . Also make reservations to the places you want to eat and keep in mind that the Pubs and all but a few places close at 10. Definately try Rusacks. Pricey but it overlooks the old course and you can heckle or applaud good shots on 18. There is also a putting green outside the rooftop bar. Worth the cost. Also Tailend for fish and chips. Ziggy's was great and if you like Indian food try Jahangir. Dont forget the Dunvegan. Maybe the best golf pub in the world- one block from the 18th green on the Old. Basically Its a college town with international tourist industry so we really didnt have a bad meal there.

You can buy alcohol at both the supermarket or liquor stores but only from 10am to 10pm.

Anyone know what the banks/atms charge when taking out pounds? My state side bank said they will not charge me but there could most likely be a fee from the atms.

I am leaving for Ireland in six weeks (late July)...any ideas on how hot/cold it will be?

The vast percentage of atms are free. You don't need a pile of cash, just a few quid you can top up every few days. 

 

Try to see Archie Baird's little museum next to the Gullane proshop. You need to make an appointment in advance, but it's worth an hour of your time. Call the proshop for info.

I am going to Ireland next month.

 

For caddie fees, I needed cash and ordered Euros/Sterling online from BoA. Very simple to do. No shipping charges for aggregate transactions over $1000. The cash was delivered in 2 days. No other fees/exchange rate was good.

Bring 100% waterproof gear. ziplocs to keep important stuff dry. 

An extra microfibre towel - it rains everyday - to keep your hands dry

Maybe leave the range finder at home. The ground is so firm and the wind so intense 'yardages' are not like at home

extra pair of shoes.

Haha the weather is not that bad. East coast for me its been very dry and windy!

 

Courses are fun great condition right now.

 

As mentioned just all the sensible things - As an American Scotland is stupid cheap with the exchange rate so you ewillhave a blast.

 

Booking restaurants in St Andrews are a must as its really busy right now; graduation for the University and golfers. I can't get a booking anywhere for Sunday at 2 weeks notice as its fathers day; so Burgers at my favourite place it is then!
