Champions Tour Bore

IMO the Champions Tour is past its sell buy date. With the best will in the world can viewers really get excited about a finish between Jaidee, Pernice, Kelly, Dawson and Triplett ? Even Jimenez's cigar is getting stale.

I reckon that a major shake up is needed, especially with LIV's attraction to name players over 40.

I think the Champions Tour is in a great spot. The competition is great, these guys are grinding it out and shooting 15-18 under for 3 rounds.

I like the courses that they play and they hit it distances that I am familiar with so I can relate to that. Plus it's stacked with guys I watched growing up when I first started. Also the swings are so unique, it's interesting to see them and how they manage the course.

Add in the fact that now you have guys like Alker out there and then a Rob Labritz qualifying for full status, that's interesting to me.

The only thing getting stale on the Champions Tour is Jerry Kelly's act after he hits the ball.

kelly's act got old a long time ago ...

I think the Champs Tour is great but the entire golf calendar is a little too saturated. Take yesterday, you had the Scandinavian Mixed which was a very good tourney, the womens team event, the womens regular tour event and the mens RBC Canadian all competing for TV coverage. That’s too much championship golf for the customer base. I don’t have the answers or even suggestions but that’s overkill.

Sorry but as a full fledged "seasoned citizen" I can't help but see the Champ Tour as anything but a "fun show". It's the PGA Tour pension plan for those who want to watch an old timers exhibition. I'm not downplaying the skill sets required, but it's a LOT more of an exhibition game than true PGA level competition. I agree that with Epson, Symetra, LPGA, PGA, and Champs plus LIV pro golf things are definitely in danger of becoming over saturated. If economy gets hokey things may actually contract of their own accord. Not sure I'd go watch Champs if tickets were free. I guess I would just rather watch up and coming future talent on minor league tours.

The Champions Tour was, is and always will be boring in comparison to the man Tour.

They play incredible golf, but really who cares who wins?  I mean, unless it's family or friends, the only athletic competition I want to watch (or, more accurately, would pay to watch) are the best in the world...regardless of age or gender.  I almost never watch youth or women's event for that reason.

There is an overload of sports on these days...which is great for choice, but IMHO, has burnt me out as well.  I haven't watched more than 20 minutes total of the NBA or NHL playoffs...two events I would have been glued to 30 years ago.

I think the Champion's Tour is fine. It's our expectations of what constitutes success that is the problem.

What's wrong with just making a living? Not every endeavor needs to gauge it's worth by how many millionaires it creates.

For me personally I rarely if ever watch this Tour play on TV.  Mostly I'm not a fan of Bernhard Langer (pace of play issues with him as well as anchoring his putter) or Miguel Angel Jimenez, so I won't watch if either of these two guys are getting TV time.

I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I watched one of their events.  And it's laughable that they have their "majors".  Really?  Any tournament that has 72 holes is your major?  LOL, ok, whatever.

To each his own though.  If you enjoy watching it, then good.  But I just don't have much interest in it overall.  And yeah, Lanny Wadkins is horrible as a commentator.

Perhaps he should invest in a better humidor.

I don't really enjoy listening to Lanny wadkins though.

Yea I wonder if they are in for an announcer change as Bob Pappa hasn't covered it in a few events. Lanny is really jaded. I do like the duo of Savarikas and Peter Jacobson, I hope they stay on with Mark Wilson inside the ropes.

Of course you're right......The market will dictate the health of the Champions tour and I'm going to put my name down as one who enjoys the golf these older players still presents. 50 is an early age to retire and the likes of players like Steve Alker rejuvenates that tours intrest.....

Great tour  for those that want to compete and we know the LIV series guy are not interested in competing ......thank goodness we won't see any of them on the Champions tour ever....

Why does it need to be more exciting?

It's second tier golf with guys who's bodies are declining.  Dropping eligibility seems like an awful idea.  Are we forgetting that Phil played a couple matches and dominated?  The last thing I want to see is younger guys joining and overpowering the league.

It's fine the way it is.  It gives some of the guys in their 50s who were never particularly long and golf is leaving behind and opportunity to play at a competitive level again.

Sumed up beautifully.....

Yeah, these guys playing only three rounds,  no cut and guaranteed prize money. Maybe we should boo them whenever we see them play.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

I don’t watch much golf but if there’s Senior golf at night I may spend some time watching my youth heroes. I see these guys with a bit of nostalgia. But they are no hacks. Very good golf, pretty competitive and wonderful courses.  But we all get old and our golf skills wane.

I like the Champions tour. Lanny is annoying and funny at the same time. It's funny listening to his bitterness as he likes to rip players that are better than him like Phil and Bernhard. His constant Billy Ray Billy Ray gets old.

Let's not get carried away now... Lanny is 9 years older than Langer.

Lanny owned him and the great Seve when they played against each other.

Lanny played fast and was fearless.

What was the head to head? Bernhard had a better career and pace of play while slow guys suck to play with isn't an indicator of skill.

Like I said Wadkins was 9 years older so they didn't duel that often, I like Langer but his career is built off the Champions Tour. 40+ wins on the Euro Tour back then and 3 PGA wins. Lanny had 21 PGA Tour wins including a PGA Major and a Players. Would you say Seve was the more accomplished player than Langer in their prime ? Lanny was 4-0 against Seve in the Ryder Cup.

Guess you’ll be quoting LIV prowess soon as well since you like exhibitions. Langer 2 majors…Seve 5 and Lanny?  And you well know that they played an era where the Euro tour was still strong. Few players from across the pond played the US tour regularly.  They are 1-2 in all time Euro wins.

Lanny is only close in his own mind….right Billy Ray?🤣
